Mike Tomlin is overwhelmed with his fears and the Steelers are suffering because of it. Two examples from yesterday's game:
  • Steelers 2nd drive, 4th and 4 at Cleveland's 32. Wind is brutal. Turnover on downs, not a short field. Go for it. Nope. Missed field goal so Cleveland gets even better field position than they would have on a failed 4th down. "But the offense sucks, why do you expect them to get a 1st down?" If you watch a lot of games, you see that defenses have a lot of trouble with 4th downs. These guys are so used to leaving the field after stopping the offense short on 3rd down that they often fail to stop on 4th down.
  • 4th quarter, 4th and 5 from Cleveland's 21, catch Cleveland with too many men on field, now 4th and a 1/2 yard from the 17 1/2. Down 9 points, need a TD and field goal. Hell of a lot easier to get a TD from the opponent's 17 than driving the field with no timeouts. Go for the TD now. If you can't make 1/2 yard, you don't deserve to win. Hey, how about a ******* QB sneak? Or know what, 4th and a foot, time FOR THE BOMB!!
The Steelers are not good enough to continue in the 2007-2012 mode of operation. They are a bad offense and a good defense. Take risks on offense. Throw the ball on 1st down. Throw over the middle to Freiermuth. Go no-huddle, a lot. Go for it on 4th down.

Otherwise, this boring ****-fest continues until Tomlin finally puts Pickett in the lineup.

Who knows how long that will be.

With TJ they're a good defense. Right now they're not a good anything.

Yeah I wouldn’t hold my breath on Kenny coming in as the starter other than injury to Mitch. I think Typical Tomlin stubbornness, ego, not wanting to admit he made a mistake with Mitch. Same reason he won’t fire Canada. Kenny is not some 21 year old rookie who played two years of college ball. No, he’s 24 with five years major college experience. He’s mature, reported that he is a workaholic always trying to get better, and he has the skills. And he played in a pro set offense at Pitt.
If we don’t start him next game against the Jets then target the home game against the Saints after the bye week. By then our record most likely will be sub 500 so why not get his experience started then?
Getting rid of Canada I think has to come from Art since shades won’t do it. QB coach Sullivan could take over OC duties the rest of this year. He’s got OC experience with the Giants and Bucs although not great at least better than Canada. Canada is not an OC at this level. Hell, LSU ran him off in one season.
That’s my two cents.

I’ve said it before…this team won’t win another playoff game until Tomlin is gone. It all starts with him. The players may like him…but that will sour quickly if they continue to lose.

Obviously, neither 4th down opportunity in the stadium was environmentally significant. If you will.
