AND yet………… we sit still.

I’m thinking they don’t bring anyone in to compliment DK. Our depth must be adequate or am I just missing something. We have cap room and need for a legit #2 who could replace DK should the Jen Swaine syndrome bite.

Well we have 1 legit starting receiver

And two guys that should be WR3/WR4 on many teams

The “depth” Two guys that between them have just over 700 career receiving yards- one a midget in the league that’s missed 1 of his 3 seasons and the other who missed his only season thus far…not a great track record of health

I call them the “depth” as I can only assume Smith is likely viewed as WR2.

I don’t love where our receiver room sits, and while I think we can add somebody a bit higher tier than what we currently have to compliment DK..
I don’t mind passing on Cooper.

Meyers would be a legit #2, but the Raiders might be asking too much. It might need to get ugly in LV first.

DK is the best WR we have. My beef with his signing was not lack of potential, it was 100% due to the lack of Value his contract brings.
DK would have to finish right behind Chase Jefferson and ahead of Cee Dee lamb for his contract to make sense from a value perspective.
Nobody in their right mind would bet DK Metcalf finishes as a top 3 WR.
I didn't like the contract but I was excited to see what DK and Pickens could do with DK on the other side.
DK Metcalf is the only WR in the league who can lost his WR#1 tag to an undersized second year slot receiver. I don't think its ever happened before in the history of the NFL, outside of injury.
I hope I am dead wrong on DK, but between him and the other unproven WR in this room, I don't see a way where we end the season and trading Pickens looks like the right call.
Steelers know they weakened the WR room thats why they are trying to hail mary for any underwhelming WR willing to sign in Pittsburgh. They can't even land older "never were's"
They can say they have confidence in Wilson and Austin until the cows come home, grasping desperately at straws in the WR market tells us the opposite is true.

I see absolutely no desperation by the team in the wide receiver market. None. In fact I see the opposite.

Its a joke, The fact that they are still in the market says it all.

No, the fact they haven't made a knee jerk reactionary signing says it all. Of course, they have done their due diligence, but they haven't been desperate and paid outrageous prices for a number 2 they might not even need. You would be up in arms if they hadn't looked at available players. They have a plan, and it involves a different scheme that may very likely negate the need for a regular true number 2 receiver. It may or may not work but they aren't desperate.

I guess one of the guys on the roster will have to step up. Very possibly could/will happen, but going into the season without a proven #2 simply looks like last years fiasco all over again. I truly hope it is true that A A Ron has had a lot of imput into the offense with Smith this year. Could go a long way.

Although I think he would be a GREAT addition, it would come down to the offensive scheme.

CeeDee in this existing offense would be a waste (as to the cost), but if the offense does see some “true” change, I’d be interested.

You and I both know this is a fallacy, but one can dream.!

I have that HOPE, for change. The Tomlin himself has indicated there needs to be change, I hope3 he follows through with that intensional.

Players won’t matter if he can’t change. The change needs to start with him, then he needs to disperse it throughout the organization. Both offense and defense need that change to scheme based.

HOPE is strong in this one.

Yeah that is what everyone is thinking.
Our wr Corps are 3 midget speedy guys who are willing to runblock, one of the best runblocking wrs, and a st wr who started out as a H-Back
All of them are blocking proficient, but the top two TEs are piss poor runblockers but great receivers

Basically Friermuth and Smith are big Wrs.

Dk is the only guy with size speed and skill in both catching passes and runblocking.. so he would be hard to replace... but a guy like Smith who isnt a great inside blocker would still be a better blocker than a lot of smaller wrs out wide...

I just thing we are gonna see a metric ton of 3 and even 4 TE sets

I just can't imagine more than a couple snaps per game where Lil Heyward takes Warren/Johnson, or DK/Wilson/Austin/Skrownek off the field. if he gets more than 10 O snaps per game, I think the Steelers are effed.

With 65 O snaps per game, your 5 WRs/4TEs/3 RBs get a total of 325 snaps. DK gets 60, Muth and Smith each get 45, Johnson/Warren gets 60, so there are only 110 snaps between Mount Washington, Austin, Wilson, Skrowneck, Miller, Gainwell and Lil Heyward.

The more snaps Washington gets, necessary for the 3 TE sets, the more imperative it is get any WR snaps. If Washington gets 35 snaps, then 4 WRs, RB3 and Lil Heyward split only 75 snaps. I'd much prefer Skrowneck than Lil Heyward.

Unless Ayahuasca A-Ron gets the Steelers up by a ton early, then the 4th stringers can get some snaps.

Yeah I don’t see more than three TE sets. You have better talent available than putting baby Hey onto the field.
