So, before the Rats game, I had read an article where a pundit was saying the Rats will want to keep Huntley as their backup as he can step in and easily run their offense. He was an undrafted guy I believe it said. The pundit thinks the Steelers will make a play for him to run Canada's offense (assuming Canada is back). Then, he looked pretty impressive in their game as the starter. He has a decent arm and he is very mobile. What say SteelerNation? Yay or nay?

Looked more composed and more mobile than either Rudolph or Haskins. I'd make a run at him and let 'em all compete. But, he's an ERFA next off season and you know the Rats aren't letting him go.

Doubt there will be any serious play for him. We will ride our bench or waste a high pick this year.

I was driving with my kid practicing for his license. We talked about Huntley. I checked his contract. Yeah. Exclusive Rights. Not happening at least this offseason..

Ravens would be smart to let Lamar walk and keep Huntley. He’s a better passer than Lamar and can run their offense just as good.

With that said, I want them to give Lamar a ton of money and sign him to a 10 year deal.

Not that the Rats would do it to a division rival but I would imagine there could be a trade offer. He shouldn't cost more than a 3rd or 4th rounder since he is currently a backup QB. If the Steelers like him, I can see them trying. For that little draft capital compared to many of the others that have been tossed around, it might be a thought in their mind. After all, in another year, Huntley will probably be looking to leave for a chance to start. He won't have that with the Rats unless they let Lamar go and they aren't doing that. They might bite on a trade offer.

It likely won't pan out but there is a reason he's a backup. He looked really good for the couple quarters I watched and if Harbaugh opted to tie it up, I think he was on a roll and would have led them to a victory. That said, that game might have been his flash in the pan for the guy. It will be interesting to see how he does over the course of a few games and when the weather gets crappy, etc. I remember when Rudy looked to be the real deal and then he got mauled in that game a couple years ago, I don't think he's been the same ever since. Let's see how this guy bounces back from a beating like the AFC North has been known to dish out

I'm sorry, but this is hot take nonsense. Yes, Lamar is going through a slump at the moment, but Huntley doesnt offer anything close to the dynamic ability that Lamar offers. Once a few more games worth of film get gobbled up by the rest of the league on Huntley, I assure you he wont look nearly as good as he does now. Now, do I think Lamar is as good as all the talking heads out there, say he is? Absolutely not, but he is still a far better long-term option than Huntley

Wow! Being an ERFA sucks for a player like Huntley....all they have to do is offer him a minimum contract and he stays?

Exclusive rights free agent (ERFA): Any player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum (based on his credited seasons), the player cannot negotiate with other teams.

I like Huntley better than everyone on our roster other than Ben.

Plus, since I live in SLC, I've heard plenty of good things about the kid. I doubt we could snatch him though...

Ravens are not letting Lamar walk for someone who played a couple games. Even if it was the right thing to do, no one is doing that. That would take more balls than any executive or HC has and I doubt they are letting this guy go for a third. Would you want the Steelers to do that? Remember the way the Steelers were able to hang on to Hilton forever costing them almost nothing. You can bet this is gonna be like that.

My hope is Lamar regains just enough "MAJIC" to allow the ravens to offer a Gazzillion dollars with life-time contract to him.

And yes, your post is spot on.

I don't think he needs to regain any magic. They are locked into the going rate for top 5 qbs whether they wanna pay or not.

I’ve got a feeling we go after Jacoby Brissett if Canada is still on staff.

If we don’t invest in OL and DL everything else will remain broken...hopefully they are wise enough to see this fundamental flaw in how this team is built. Without a legit OL no QB will be effective and Najee will be completely wasted just like with no DL our entire D is just waiting to be exposed on a weekly basis.

Lamar was carrying the Rats all year. They have had so many injuries, I was amazed they kept finding ways to win but most of those ways were via Lamar. He'll probably be back this week anyhow but Brown looks injured again. So, it's Lamar and Andrews on O with whoever they throw in at RB this week. He'll get a ginormous contract from the Rats.

P.S. I still have a gut feeling we end up with Mayfield. Don't hate me. It's just a feeling I keep getting.

P.S.S. Anyone know why some are mocking a QB to the Beagles with their top 10 pick? I have seen them taking Pickett. Are they not happy with Hurts or are these so-called experts complete idiots?

Totally agree on the film study aspect...

I know this dude who's girlfriends cousin has a nephew that knows a cat who said his uncles friend heard his brother talking to this chick that use to date a friend of this guy that knew Ben. word has it Ben plans on playing two more years so he can move to #three on all time passing list. So ya'll need to relax QB is covered till we get Bryce Young.

You're welcome

He is a bit like Russell Wilson the past few years. Plays like **** for three quarters and then when all out running and throwing come in he takes over. But it's kinda caught up to Wilson to some extent. If we take Mayfield in sloppy seconds to the Brownstains I'm going to become a very quiet Steelers fan.

I'm not concerned about our D-Line moving forward. We're missing two pretty key people in Tuitt and Alualu. I'm assuming they'll be back next year.

If Ben doesn't come back I'd consider Huntley if he became an option. I also wouldn't mind Winston, Mariota, Trubisky...maybe Brissett. For better or worse, I think all four would be more entertaining to watch than Rudolph.

Mariotta? Wow

Mariotta? Wow
I would prefer someone with more of an unknown element.

Huntley - unheralded QB as an UDFA, a complete unknown what he would do as a full-time starter. Has shown potential in his limited action and is mobile, something Tomlin has talked a lot about this year.

Winston - was having a nice bounce-back season with the Saints. Coming off an injury would be relatively cheap and outside of Ben, is the QB with the highest pedigree on the open market.

Mariota - I have no idea what he could bring to the table at this point. That is part of what intrigues me, the unknown element. He's a veteran who's had so-so success as a starter.

Trubisky - Chicago stinks and Trubisky was a part of that. At times he looked good and his overall stats were decent. Maybe a change of scenery would do him good and a stable franchise like Pittsburgh could maximize his talent as a bridge QB.

Brissett - always hear a lot about his potential, but never really see it. At the very least, he's flashed here and there.

Again, all of these guys feel a little more exciting than the prospect of starting Rudolph.
