I carried fire arms for a number of years as a cop and I carried all kinds of different weapons as the occasion required, both in uniform and in plain clothes. I can only imagine what a complete incompetent fool one would need to be to shoot oneself with their own fire arm.

Semi's, single doubles even revolvers have safeties that are easily released on a draw for crissakes. This turd had to have his piece cocked. He maybe had his trigger pull lightened up so it would drop the hammer if the wind blows.

I have never seen a revolver with a safety but I am old school and most of my guns are decades old. That was always the benefit of them for home defense, pull the trigger and it fires.

Revolvers do not have safties. Many semis such as Glock, and other striker fire semi-autos do not either. They rely on a long heavy trigger pull, and some a trigger safety. 1911's and some other semis do have safeties. If it was a modified trigger on a safety-less gun the guy is more than a knucklehead.

Not a safety, half cocked is what you are describing. One of the things a revolver does have is a hammer block that moves when the revolver is cocked. At half cocked the hammer block pulls itself out of the way and the gun could fire, thus the phrase "going off half cocked came into being".

The training police receive goes way beyond gun awareness. Many are trained in the use of many different weapons. Weapons range from assault rifles to sniper rifles to 40 mill grenade launchers. I still remember the range officer saying "DO NOT AIM THE WEAPON LOADED WITH A 40 MILLIMETER BARRICADE PENETRATING PROJECTILE AT ANYONE, WE DO NOT NEED TO HAVE A PERSON WITH A FIN STABILIZED PROJECTILE STUCK IN HIS CHEST AND TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT IN COURT."
