Ray-Ray McCloud Signs with San Francisco

The Pittsburgh Steelers will need to find a new return man for 2022. Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud is signing with the San Francisco 49ers according to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler.

WR/return specialist Ray-Ray McCloud is signing with the #49ers on a two-year deal, per source.

McCloud led NFL in punt return yards (367) and also caught 39 passes for the Steelers last year.

McCloud was the Steelers return man for the last two seasons and emerged as a leading target for Ben Roethlisberger out of the slot last season.

McCloud made the team out of training camp in 2020 after having an impressive showing as a return man.

One of my favorites in the draft is Velus Jones as a mid rounder, he could definitely replace him as a returner and be far more valuable as an actual receiver. Love his ability to hands catch and immediately tuck to run, think he'll be a huge YAC guy

I might be in the minority but I liked him. He is a moxie guy. He wasn't a great return man but better than they had and let's face it He outshone Washington a fairly high draft pick at receiver. He had some bad moments but overall he was pretty damn decent. He got a much bigger payday then I bet he dreamed of when he got into this league.

Thought he did well in moments others didn't. I had no problem with him either.

Funny how Ray Ray was "Tomlin's guy" when it was BR-7 that offered the most praise for him and gave him more targets last year than he had received in his entire career. Maybe that was Ben making the most of a bad situation with JuJu out and running OCMC's offense. Either way, Ray Ray probably owes Ben a good chunk of that change SF is gonna pay him. I'm not saying that Ray Ray was here simply because Ben valued him. He was a decent return man; just not a threat to break one most of the time. But, as we saw with two years of Switzer, when Ben liked you, they tried to keep you around.

Now, all that said, towards the middle of the year, Ray Ray kinda grew on me. Not enough to want to keep him. But, in JuJu's absence, he showed a toughness/grittiness that was lacking in DJ and [sarcasm] Mapletron [/sarcasm].
