While many have speculated this could be, it appears it is confirmed that Pittsburgh Steelers’ veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not return after this season:

Ben Roethlisberger privately has told former teammates and some within the organization that he expects this to be his final season playing quarterback for the Steelers, league sources told ESPN.

More coming ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, with a special start time at 9 am ET.

This likely means Roethlisberger will retire after this season. He has been the team’s starter since 2004. He is without doubt a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is top 10 in most passing categories in league history, as well as being the record holder in most of Pittsburgh’s passing history as well.

These last few games should not be taken for granted. These will likely be the last ones we ever see Roethlisberger in the black and gold. Coming up is his potential last home game at Heinz Field against division rival Baltimore Ravens. He will try to close out the first game of the year against Baltimore with the team’s first win in three weeks.

Once again, don’t take these games for granted. Roethlisberger is the embodiment of what it means to be a Steeler, and has never been anything less.

No surprise really. Not many guys play past 40 and the OL sucks and isn't getting better any time soon.

If you have to talk about retirement during the middle of the season you are in, especially if you are not playing well .......you are already gone

Tomlin , Ben and everyone else need to shut the **** up and prepare for what lies ahead of them in 7 day stretches at a time....... hate to quote a dick like Bellicheat.. but onto the Ravens should be the only thing coming out of a Steeler right now

Hocus Pocus learn to ******* Focus

Totally agree Paul but I also wonder if this could be a little manufacturing going on. BEN is Ben and he may need the publicity but even this falls out of his character. If it was off-season I could fully see it but I don't recall a middle of season thing such as this happening. My memory could be B & G colored but I also know / realize he is done. He has to realize he is done but we also don't know the day to day stuff either.

As for focusing in 7 day increments, that hasn't happened nearly consistant enough under Coach Tomlin's regime. Many times they have looked past up-coming opponents / unleashed hell at inappropriate times / left mentality @ home when traveling to the west coast / amongst other things as well.

If this is true and BEN is talking this garbage mid-season, bench him. I will continue to watch our best QB in franchise history to finish out his last season and root for not only him but also our beloved STEELERS to pull a Coach Tomlin outtA their asz'z and exit respectibly.
