Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager, Kevin Colbert said that if the season were to start today, Mason Rudolph would be the team’s starting quarterback. Of course social media lit up as Steeler Nation wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of Rudolph behind center for the Steel City come Week 1 in 2022. He’s 5-4-1 as the Steelers starting quarterback and has yet to convince fans and the Steelers front office that he can be the guy long-term. However, it makes sense Colbert would say what he said.

Rudolph is currently the only quarterback under contract for the Steelers and he’s signed through 2023. We can expect to see Dwayne Haskins as the QB2 when training camp starts, and he will also battle for the starting position. With these two quarterbacks going head-to-head, can we expect the “winner” to take the reigns as the new face of the franchise in Pittsburgh? *ESPN’s Tim Hasselbeck has entered the chat*

Hasselbeck is a current analyst and journalist for ESPN and played eight seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and Arizona Cardinals. He is the younger brother of former NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck whom the Steelers faced in Super Bowl XL. Hasselbeck thinks the Steelers will look to bring in some proven talent, and I have to say, this would be a dream come true. Watch:

“I’ll put a name out there and I’m going to say Russell Wilson. Look, I think that Russell Wilson does not want to be in Seattle. And I think that Seattle quite honestly would be fine moving on as long as they felt comfortable with what their replacement would be in Seattle. And so if Russell Wilson is looking to play on a team that can be a contending team, he’s looking to play in a market that will give him more exposure than his current market in Seattle is giving him, then I think Pittsburgh checks those boxes.” – Tim Hasselbeck via ESPN

Do yinz think the Steelers will pull the trigger on Wilson? Or should we prepare for the likes of Mason Rudolph behind center? Click to comment below!

I don't think Wilson wants to come to a small market team. But Wilson at QB would make me MUCH more hopeful for next season over the like of Jimmy G or or the current QBs on the Steeler's roster.

Yeah… Wilson is being tied to big market teams like New York and Dallas… there has been talk he’d go to vegas too…

But that guy would cost more than Rodgers… you are talking multiple firsts…and a big payday on top of that… at 33 is is just out of his prime but has like 5 good years left

Saw a Russell Wilson to Saints scenario today somewhere. They said a 1st and a 3rd this year and next and Saints throw in Gardner-Johnson as well. Then rework his contract to 150 mill over 4 yrs. With 95 guaranteed. Also a 2024 2nd rounder if Saints reach super bowl, well we won't have to worry about that one.

Lets just say for ***** and giggles this is the going rate. So we have to add Sutton to match the Gardner Johnson part. Back load the money will still cost what, 15 mill this year? Then you gotta sign Minka. Hardly any draft picks this year and no first or third next year, need to replace Sutton as well as resign or replace our other three DBs who are free agents. Replace at least two wide receivers, rebuild continues/starts with OL and we haven't touched the DL and ILB.

Rodgers would be worse plus you'd have to deal with him and his cleansed ***.

Next up "Get Tom Brady out of retirement!"

Of all the "veteran big-name QB's coming to the 'Burgh" rumors, this is the one I would want. $$$ makes it doubtful though.

They have just about every QB possibly available going to the Steelers.😅

It's a good thing the article told me who Tim Hasselback is or I'd still be wonderng. 8years in the NFL and 6 different teams and riding his brother's coat tail to boot.

Throw enough **** on the wall. Wilson is vey talented but only when he is a mix of run pass. The trade cosst will probably be two first rounders. Pass.

To throw a little gasoline on this ember, Wilson just removed all Seahawks tags from his social media bios. He's not coming to Pittsburgh IMO, but should be interesting.

And when one of them is right, they will say I told you so.

Someone is going to play quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022!

You heard it here first.

My guess is we are going to draft a starting QB, Trade for one or pick up a Vet. but if we, don't it will be Mason.
