Trump Ends 20-Year Tradition of Celebrating Ramadan at White House

By Daniel Politi

President Donald Trump has now officially become the first president in nearly two decades to not host an iftar dinner marking the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Instead of continuing with the tradition that began under President Bill Clinton, Trump and first lady Melania Trump released a statement wishing “warm greetings to Muslims as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr.” Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims around the world abstain from eating and drinking from dawn until dusk.

The annual White House dinners were typically attended by prominent members of the Muslim community as well as lawmakers and diplomats. The dinners continued uninterrupted after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks as then-President George W. Bush emphasized the country was combating terrorism and not Islam.

“It is disappointing because that’s been a good tradition,” Imam Talib Shareef of the Nation’s Mosque in Washington told Newsweek. “To stop it doesn’t send a good message. You get the chance to go golfing and all this other kind of stuff. How come you don’t have time for a population of your society that needs some assistance? The message that it sends is that we’re not that important.”

When he was campaigning for the presidency, Trump said in an interview that he wouldn’t be opposed to continuing the tradition. “It wouldn’t bother me. It wouldn’t bother me,” Trump said. “It’s not something I’ve given a lot of thought to but it wouldn’t bother me.”

Confirmation that the White House won’t commemorate Ramadan comes shortly after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also raised eyebrows by refusing to host the annual Ramadan event at the State Department.

Historians believe the first iftar dinner at the White House took place in 1805, when President Thomas Jefferson hosted Sidi Soliman Mellimelli, Tunisia’s envoy to the United States, reports the Washington Post. Although Jefferson’s working dinners usually began at 3:30 p.m., in December 1805 the invitations noted that “dinner will be on the table precisely at sun-set.”

But, but, but....the Crusades Mr. Superman. Haven't you listened to Elftard?? Christians are the damnation of the Earth and Islam is a religion of peace. There SHOULD be an exception for Islam being celebrated in the White House. Islam is the uber-Religion, the dali lama and holy grail of all religions, yea verily.

I celebrated Ramadan with a shaved pork and jalapeño sammich at the Hollywood Gardens Bar in Rochester. Beer and food is worth the trip if you're in western PA.

My greeting - "Salami Boloney"

Response - "Baloney Salami"

Mortadella, cappicola to you all. Ron that sammich looks awesome.

Ron that sammich looks awesome.

It's the special this week. Their food is off the hook. I usually just order whatever the special is and rarely off the regular menu. They have a dessert menu that includes bacon-wrapped deep-fried s'mores. :eyebrows:

Is rape a Muslim tradition?

There's an app for that now

Paris gets an app warning people if they are in a 'no-go' zone

An app has been launched in Paris warning people if they are in a so-called no-go zone and giving live alerts of sexual assaults.

Dozens of people have already downloaded No-Go Zone, which is available on Google Play, and it currently has a rating of 4.3 out of 5.

Its designers say the app is meant to let people know if they are in a dangerous area and allow them to avoid places in the French capital where they might be at risk of violence or crime.

'It is an indispensable application for anyone who thinks that the cultural 'enrichment' of non-natives is not compatible with our way of life'

Jefferson hosted no such special dinner. All that happened is the Tunisian envoy informed them that he couldn't eat until sundown so simply postponed a few hours to be diplomatic.

It's just revisionist history to try to claim the Muslims have been a major part of the country since the founding and it's bullshit.
