It is no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers are struggling to get anything going on offense. The team heads into Week 4 averaging just 16.7 points per game, 5th worst in the NFL. Add an abysmal, league-worst, 53 rushing yards per game to the mix and hope for the offense is already dwindling after three weeks. Rome wasn’t built in one day and neither will an offense full of fire power and explosiveness. With that said, there has to be something, a quick boost if you will, to help the offense find a little more rhythm and spice.

I think back to Week 17 of last season when many starters were resting and Ben Roethlisberger did not play against the Cleveland Browns. While Mason Rudolph played well, the quarterback storyline heading into the Wild Card Weekend matchup the following week against the Browns was whether the Steelers should dress three quarterbacks or not, a very uncharacteristic approach for head coach Mike Tomlin. The reason this idea was brought up was because of how the Steelers used Joshua Dobbs in the final regular game of the season with a sputtering offense.

Ben Roethlisberger says "I'm all for it," if the #Steelers dress and use fellow QB Josh Dobbs for some snaps Sunday vs the #Browns. Says, "I'll literally do whatever it takes to win this football game."

Dobbs only had two rushes from a Wildcat-esque look, but he had 20 yards on the ground along with five pass attempts. It was an unexpected, unique surprise that the Steelers tested. With how the offense has performed thus far, many think that it can’t hurt to try something similar.

The third quarterback on the roster this season, Dwayne Haskins, is more than capable of taking a few snaps and generating some offense. The Steelers are in desperate need of a spark plug offensively. I am not suggesting to start anyone at quarterback other than Roethlisberger (yet), but having a little more mobility and an explosive arm in the pocket could provide a little more creativity. Haskins has a small sample size of rushes in the NFL, only 40 carries for 147 yards, but it is important to note that he averaged 5.1 yards per carry in his first season with the Washington Football Team.

This would not come without risk. Haskins was plagued with poor decision making in his first two seasons and fumbled the ball 12 times in 16 total games. You also have to account for a weak offensive line that can barely grasp a run play, let alone a two quarterback system.

This is more of a creative, change of pace that could keep defenses on their toes just enough to allow the offense to open up a bit. A change of pace to Pittsburgh could be exactly what Haskins needed to improve and make an impact. It will be interesting to see if and when Tomlin and Matt Canada decide to play this card because Steeler Nation knows something has to change. It can’t get much worse, so why not?

Do you think Haskins should get an opportunity to dress and spark the offense? Let us know in the comments below!

Absolutely NOT. I don't know why people in the media and some fans think because Haskins threw some nice passes way back when they were practicing in shorts, he is worthy of starting or even playing now (next year will be an entirely different story but he still has a loooooong way to go). He did very little in the preseason games and looked horrible when he did play against some starters in our final preseason game. He is our 3rd string QB. Unless we have injuries, he will stay there until next year.

Blinded because you do not like Mason, what actually has Haskins done he showed no better preseason and if he was doing so well Tomlin who ran after him would dress him. Just listening to some of the Pittsburgh radio shows that see practices all say no way, may not mean much what they say but they have more access than any of us.

What is the fascination with Haskins… does everyone think because he is black that makes him a mobile qb? He is a pocket passer like the other two…
Er...why was color/race even needed???

Presently, all the QB's beneath Ben on the depth chart ARE MORE MOBILE than him...

I can see this is going to be an interesting thread.

No offense… i was referring to an older similar argument about byron leftwich… I don’t understand why people assume that a black quarterback is a running qb… if the argument is that any qb is more mobile than ben, fine, use Rudolph…

Newsflash people.. Mason Rudolph is slow but he is actually a faster player than Haskins is…

Haskins has always been a pocket passer… you aren’t running some fancy gimmick offense with him… if you want a randle el type then go get one… im sure Tebow isn’t doing anything right this moment… don’t just assume the 3rd string qb is capable of it

Duly noted.

Thanks for the clarity.

Nope. One of the ideas behind bringing Haskins here was to give him a year in a better environment with coaches that wanted to see him succeed; or at least would invest in helping him to succeed. Bringing him in now, behind this offensive line, does nothing to further that goal. In fact, it does the opposite. And, if the line were playing better, you wouldn't be talking about wanting to bring him in ... because Ben would, most likely, be playing better.
Now, if you want to totally crush the kids' psyche, sure, throw him to the wolves in a situation where he's bound to fail.

Why is this even being asked? If he gets a hat, then someone else who can actually contribute won’t be able to. They need help on the D Line, O Line, DB’s or receivers. Unless Ben is hurt or Rudolph can’t go for whatever reason then Hell no

Haskins issues are all in his head… he has to learn how to be a pro QB… he has a fine arm and natural throwing motion… but most of the stuff around these two backups we have are weird biases about each…

Haskins was a pocket passer prototype much like Rudolph… tgeir arm strength numbers were the same, but again haskins had a nicer mechanic… haskins was a lot slower, runing a 5.0something 40

Rudolph was in the 4.85 range … the same as peyton Manning

Most mobile qbs are in the 4.5 to 4.7 range… so I don’t get the repeated argument that haskins is better suited for deep balls or running a RPO type offense…

Why you ask...simple. Clicks...you set the bait. And wait. They will come. Hell. I clicked on it. 😔

You put him behind this OL then you better prepare yourself for all bad things to happen.
Look what this OL is doing for Ben, getting him beat up weekly. Granted that Ben has lost most of his skill set do to age but with a strong OL and running game, Ben would be fine. You put Haskins back there you’ll lose him for sure, and his confidence will go down the toilet.
Steelers need to bring in Ricky Wagner and or MItchell Schwartz to try and patch this OL up and commit to the running game. Reduce the number of throws Ben is making and insert Derick Watt at FB.

Josh could probably run Canada's system better than anybody else on the team.

There you go, spewing out FACTS, most here won't under stand them unless they are screwed or made up......... !!!!

Thanks for pointing these out.!

ALSO: Most people are enamored with the 3rd string QB as he has yet to **** anything up.

Salute the nation

I love it when I tell the racist left that Rudolph is more mobile and prove it with their 40 times.

The last thing we need is Haskins dumping off to Harris every play. Roethlisberger already does that too much. I do feel Roethlisberger will miss an extended period of time and we’ll see Rudolph and perhaps a little Haskins during that time span.
