So has anyone ever heard of platooning a OT before?

No.

Like seriously, who does that? And why?

It might take the place of a 35 yr old starting QB pushing a blocking sled as the dumbest thing to happen this season....

Like is it cause you dont want to hurt someone's feelings?

Are you trying to develop both guys at RT simultaneously?
Trying to get Dan Moore to the Hall of Fame? I have no clue what they are doing other than screwing w/ the young guys development. Jones didnt seem all too happy after the game either. Maybe they feel Jones cant go all game w/ his injury, but still a strange situation.

Why put him in a position to fail if he isn't 100%? I will say the one holding penalty was bogus. A shame because it negated a nice play.

Exactly. Shades doesn't want to hurt Moore's feels.
He's always had his favorites and plays them even when they're not very good.
Jarvis Jones says Hi.

Moving forward IMO Jones’s should be behind Moore second team. Let him earn that start as Moore and Troy are playing better football right now. Jones should stay on the left now unless needed back on the right…

The Steelers run on a hierarchy that is very strange. They don't like to russle feathers of vets. And they also prefer floors to ceilings. So the situation is this. They love Fautanu. They want to play Jones because he became the best blocker last year. They don't have the guts to say Moore is playing really well for him......but we think we can get more. So they came up with a laughable plan to platoon. Jones even said he'd rather not play and he was not sulking at all. Hell if Herbig didn't get hurt and played a little better in pre season......no Frazier. As I tell my grade 10 players. If you think this is a line you've been in and now it's your turn......you are sadly mistaken. If a nine is as good or better he plays. Sorry. He will improve and be great next year and you are gone to varsity.

As I said before, I know I'm on an island here, but the Jones pick to me wasn't the necessity it was made out to be. I think Moore will end up being solid at LT. He has worked hard. He has never whined about the crap of an offense that didn't help the OL at all. He seems like a tough kid. I'm on such an island...the Steelers don't even believe that, and that is what pisses me off. They don't believe it because they drafted tackles in the 1st two years in a row. You are telling the world the tackle position needs to improve. Well then, dammit, start Jones at LT, Fautanu at RT and be done with it. Put your actions where the money is.

I'm a pretty positive guy, but this is the crap that makes it hard to get into the Steelers anymore. I just don't see what they are trying to do here. There were other positions of need in 2023 they could have addressed like WR or DL or even double up on DBs early.

Mind you, this is nothing against Broderick Jones. I can understand last year. The RT position was a mess, you did what you had to do. But now? Quit jerking the kid around. It's stupid.

If there isnt an injury. They will let Dan Moore walk in free agency next year. If they were smart they would wait for someone good to take an injury and trade him for a second or third. If yesterday was the gameplay for the season you couod have Trent Williams at LT. Wouldn't matter.

To be fair Moore improved in the offseason and I think they view him as a fringe starter. Chuks was on the way out and the depth in the pantry was bare. Nothing derails a season like being deficient in your trenches. So they have been building those trenches. I have no problem with that.

Troy’s injury put a hold on their plans IMO but in the process Moore improved and Jones struggled.

Good thing is it didn’t cost wins so put Jones back at LT and eventually he will take on the start. I see what they are trying to do , they just seem to be off with their timing approach at times.

Hopefully moving forward the right the ship…

Please, enlighten the rest of us.
Build the trenches. But injuries can derail plans it happens. The planned rotation that was a different issue entirely. That comes from the teams co starter in deficiency the O-line coach.

Other deficiency? WR 2.

Yeah, and probably the injuries to Seamulo and Dylan Cook haven't helped. Because if they aren't hurt they'd have Cook probably at backup RT? And Anderson in a pinch. Then let Moore and Jones fight it out at LT. I understand their predicament now, but they started camp off screwing with Jones. That's what doesn't make sense, among other things.

Another thing, I think the OL coach is fine. He isn't Munch, but who is? The idiocy on this is above him.

Cook stinks and so does anderson

Holy shiit...I didn't see the game yesterday, it wasn't on, but I saw some highlights. Another site just posted the hold calls on Jones. That is what they called, but the stuff they let happen to Watt, Highsmith and Herbig is ok?

Agree it was a bullshit call and Tomlin seemed to agree on the sideline

The consistency wasn't even close yesterday. Seems like they use the holding calls to just keep the games close (entertaining).

Would be interesting to sit in on referee meetings...

The platoon made absolutely zero sense and was one of the dumbest non-play call coaching moves I've ever seen in the regular season. Even Jones said if he isn't starting he shouldn't be playing. Jones was raw and needed developing coming out of college and rather than settle him in at a position the coaching staff had virtually no plan for him.

Not normally done, no. Give a guy who was playing the RT last year a game chance at proving himself, yes. Jones failed. Give Tomlin props for pulling him when he did when he **** the bed. Yes i think if he is going to play he needs to beat out Dan Moore. Leave Jones there and make him beat him out.. If he cant, Moore stays put. **** it

To answer the platooning question, I just happened to remember this yesterday. They did do some platooning of lineman ion the 70s. The platooned Ray Mansfield and Jim Clack at center, then it was Mansfield and Webster. If I recall, Clack would go out to guard when he wasn't playing center, and maybe Webby did that a little. Mullins played guard but also some tackle, but not sure if they did too much of that at tackle. The rosters were smaller then, and you really needed position flexibility on the line, which they had.

agree with this. my only only guess about them platooning RT is trying to ease Fautanu in and not really doing it for Jones. still doesn't make much sense. if Jones can wn the LT spot, great, if not, he can back up both positions.
