I've said this often and I'm afraid I lost my head and forgot a bit one of my core beliefs about this team and this fan base.

"Love them when they win. Love them when they lose."

I am guilty of full on going off the rails. I'm a bit ashamed of myself. I said quite a few things in the heat of the moment and I got fully carried away with my frustration. As fans we DO know that for whatever reason the team tends to struggle on the road. We know that. So why am I acting like a giant jackass and berating guys who I'm pretty damn sure did NOT want to lose that game?

And that includes Tomlin, Haley and Butler. I'm not excusing the various issues, but I'm certain they'd like to get it all fixed more than anybody.

As for the tunnel thing during the anthem. It was a clusterfuck. I don't believe they intended to make a "negative" statement but it was interpreted that way. And now there's nothing they can do about it. This is what we've all been bitching about regarding the media for months. From all appearances, they (the team) tried to keep their personal opinions OUT of the public eye and what happened instead is that the public has chosen to interpret their intentions for them.

Well folks, that may be unfair.

Whether we agree or disagree with the people who kneel, turn their back or even burn the flag - it is their God given American right to do so. You don't have to like it, but that's why it's such a great country. We need to at least tolerate, if not respect it. You take away that right, what's next?

If we're going to refuse people the right to peacefully protest the anthem because it offends our sensibilities, what's the next step? Think about that? I'm not arguing for or against any political position here. I'm merely suggesting that we not jump on the media bandwagon and crucify a bunch of guys who were probably trying to keep their **** private as was their right.

And please fellas, can you go out and kick the rat's ***** for me? Please?

I think this is a lot of people's reaction to both the tunnel clusterfuck and statements and also the **** show performance of the entire team during the game. If they had gone out and beat the piss out of the Bears maybe we would have less to talk about.

so what you are saying is you

wig-ged out

I have a lot more bad jokes where that came from

I respect their right to protest, I do not happen to agree with them. I also have a right to protest, by not sending ANY money their way. They need to respect that, or at least think about it first. Is their opinion worth more to them than what they receive for not voicing it? Ask the Dixie Chicks that question sometime, I am sure they will lie to you when they answer.

I can tolerate a loss if we are beaten without stupid mistakes and bad coaching vs most teams.

But to lose to a doormat as often as the Steelers do irks me.

I have my rights also, the team demonstrated lack of respect to one of their own, lack of respect for Soldiers Field, lack of respect for the many that the National Anthem stands for ones who have given more than these players to protect their rights to say as they please. The Steelers became followers to do as the rest and yes that is their right but by all the back stepping Monday, Tuesday and finger pointing they the players looked as many thought, chumps. Time does not pass the players actions.

I'd like to know what twinkle toe communist puke sheet for brains came up with the idea that a US Army Ranger Captain that did three tours in A'Stan was wrong to stand at attention and face the US Flag during the playing of the National Anthem?
That doesn't even have anything to do with what ******* Kaperinck started. That dick doesn't even pack the gear to be qualified to carry Villaneva's jock.

I have thought about this a lot. I don't believe their intention was to disrespect the flag. I really don't. Regardless you won't see them do it again and have put it in their rear view mirror. Which I think we should as well. Some changed their approach to watching the Steelers and that is fine, their choice. I respect it. But for the rest that still watch them. I think you forgive and move forward. And do what we all desire, back to football. Or at least to the closest we will get to it with Godell in charge.

The problem is some people can't understand that a person's right to protest doesn't trump my right to hold an opposing view. As long as the boss is willing to allow their employees to use there business to promote their political views, then they are within their right. But don't tell me I don't have a right to be offended by them using their current platform. In the end we all have 2 choices, tune in or tune out. I choose to start watching @ midway through the first quarter and refuse to purchase any NFL licensed merchandise until Godell and the protests are gone. I served over 26 years to preserve everyone's rights, including my own.

edit-
I'm sure many have seen this, but it's always a good read.

“I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory. I fly
atop the world’s tallest buildings. I stand watch in America’s halls of justice. I
stand guard majestically over great institutions of learning.

I stand guard with the greatest military power in the world. Look up and
see me. I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice. I stand for freedom. I am
confident; I am arrogant; I am proud. When I am flown with my fellow banners,
my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer. I bow to no one. I am recognized
all over the world.

I am worshiped. I am loved and I am feared. I have fought in every battle
of every war for more than 200 years: Gettysburg, Shilo, Appomattox, San Juan
Hill, the trenches of France, the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome, the beaches of
Normandy, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, in the Persian Gulf and a
score of places long forgotten, by all but those who were there with me. I was
there.

I led my Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. I followed them and
watched over them. They loved me. I was on a small hill in Iwo Jima. I was dirty,
battle-worn and tired, but my Marines and Sailors cheered me. And I was proud.
I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries that I
have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I have been soiled, burned, torn and
trampled on the streets of my own country. and when it is by those I have served
in battle with, it hurts. But I shall overcome, for I am strong. I have slipped the
bonds of earth and from my vantagepoint on the moon, I stand watch over the
uncharted new frontiers of space.

I have been silent witness to all of America’s finest hours. But my finest
hour comes when I am torn in strips to be used as bandages for my wounded
comrades on the field of battle - when I fly at half mast to honor my Soldiers, my
Airman, my Sailors, my Marines, and - when I lie in the trembling arms of a
grieving mother, at the graveside of her fallen son or daughter.

I am proud. My name is “Old Glory.” Long may I wave, dear God, long
may I wave.”

I am hoping the politics before the game stop with the media soon, making the pregame watchable again. I am crossing my fingers.

I've largely stopped posting in politics. The goal of debate should be to get enlightened to other viewpoints and have them get the same. I find both sides to be so deeply entrenched that it doesnt matter what is said or what happens. Last Sunday picked the scab off in sports for many of us and there was plenty of ugliness to go around. Im happy to be living North of the Border. If the US stays divided like this serious violence and division that no one could have dreamed of 15 years ago is almost inevitable.

Don't keep em crossed till it happens as they may fall off. I'm afraid the political BS will be here for awhile. The nfl doesn't seem to think it's counter productive so they will push their agenda.
Peaceful anti protest

nothing a click off won't solve

I, for one, am heartened to know that when NFL players are not using drugs, driving drunk, or beating their girlfriends, they're fighting for the rights of others who are. #doinggodswork

Really? Just sad.

These actions will kill off the nfl. Fewer viewers. Smaller tv contracts will translate to lower contracts for players. Yay.

Really? Just sad.
Yes, really.

Lets look at the fairly recent history of player behavior: Drug use - many players testing positive for illegal and performance enhancing drugs. Violence against women - (this one can go on forever) pouring bleach on your baby mama while she's holding your baby, vicious closed fist beatings, having a girlfriend shot and killed over an unwanted pregnancy, sexual assaults of all kinds and varieties. Drunk driving - another list too lengthy to get into. Dog killing, drug dealing, murder, assaults...... and how many lives have these clowns saved? But they feel qualified to protest against the behavior of police officers?

And don't give that 'this was about Trump' ****. They mimicked the actions of a POS that wore clothing on the field that depicted all police officers as pigs. They mimicked the actions of other players who disrespected the flag and anthem while Obama was President. They have a microphone thrust in their faces every day, if they had a problem with what Trump said, they had every opportunity to voice that opinion vocally, but they decided to **** on something that symbolizes our country, not its president.

And lets not forget the especially ignorant display in London, where Rats and Jag players stood for God Save the Queen, but knelt for our national anthem. Maybe they forgot about British colonialism and its effect on minorities all over the world? I guess spending time on a college campus doesn't necessarily mean you're educated.

they were only on a college campus to take dope and try to **** white chicks.

everyone has a right to protest, do it on your time. If I protested in a business I worked at, I'd be fired. These athletes have a platform, they can protest or say what they want to the media and be heard. this kneeling is a way of getting individual attention. But, Great post WIG. I'm with ya. go STEELERS!

This guy sums it up for me completely. I'm pretty much done talking about it.

But these athletes employer have chosen to let them protest before the games. So you stating you would be fired really doesn't apply here now does it?

am self employed, so no it doesn't apply. the owners of these teams only care about the dollar..this may change some things

Protests, kneeling for the anthem, standing in the tunnel, all bullshit. I even saw one of the black players sitting eating a ******* banana while the anthem was playing. Another genius was riding a bike. They know what they’re doing believe me.
There job is to entertain, period. It’s not to protest, its not to show disrespect, its not to totally mishandle the situation and escalate something HE should have controlled, Tomlin. It’s to play a game and entertain. That’s all it is. Entertainment.
The field of play is not the forum to conduct protests. It’s to play football.
And the media in this country does what they do best. Beats it to death, sucks every drop out of it and continues to feed the fire.
Rather than emphasize on the games played this past weekend everything is about something completely other than football.
And the Steelers completely botched this entire situation. Tomlin the head coach should not have left it to the players. He’s the ******* head coach and instead of trying to be one of the boys, this was an opportunity to take charge and show leadership.
This is not the league nor the team I grew up loving but now a poor product and a team that has lost its luster, identity and toughness.
