So..... is he clowning us?

They worked on jet sweeps.

I also get annoyed with obvious observations. We all know Calvin Johnson is fast just like the groundbreaking news that every Steelers reporter gave us day one of camp when they told us "Darnell Washington is big." Yeah, you said the same thing at mini camp, OTAs, rookie camp, etc. We also already knew this because we saw him play at Georgia.

My bigger concern is still the overall lack of passing to the middle of the field.

Calvin Johnson is retired. Reports on SNR have been hopeful with them using the middle of the field.
 
Steelers fan irrationally hate the Jet sweep… even prior to matt canada being the OC here, roughly 10% of all nfl offensive plays used jet motion… in fact we were one of the teams that used it the least. It also had a super high success rate…

Making Canada the OC was an attempt to catch the offense up to the Chiefs or Bills and the rest of the league… the knock on Canada has nothing to do with Jet sweeps.., its advanced pass route construction…

You dont get YAC or splash plays running that many comebacks and always taking shots to the deep sideline… and some of his auxiliary routes need to drag coverage away better…
 
When Tomlin has the play develop by running parallel to the LOS it typically ends in a two yard loss. Run straight up the field for a change.

That was sort of my point in a round about way. I feel that should be an area of focus. At least a bigger concentrated effort to improve in regards to that.

Yeah those generic responses from some of them definitely come across like we are Capt cavemaning evaluations.

In Matt’s defense if a play is gonna be ran at least once a series they probably should practice it

I remember thinking last year that Canada was setting something up with his jet sweeps, but nothing came about of it. maybe it is a 2 year process
 
5 wide Austin as the Z wr next to him is Muth and Pickens bubble Screen with Chuks pulling that can be a deadly play

As long as it’s not a 3 year process! The new brain thrust in Steel Town finally seems to have a more aggressive approach. Player doesn’t fit....get rid of....sign FA. If things go sideways for the first half of the season as in our Offense still looks like high school football,I definitely think they will fire Mr.Canada mid season.

In a perfect world they would. He has the tools he just doesn't know how to use them in a logical and or imaginative manner. i don't doubt he can design a play or even a system. So far the issue's been creativity and flow in game calling the plays. He doesn't do things with purposeful intent seemingly. He just relies on throwing things at the wall but not even randomly he gets stuck in predictable patterns and calls that are telegraphed by formation.

I read a breakdown or two about Canada's offense and a big criticism is he doesn't set anything up with his plays.

They can if you have a strong inside ground game. That is what keeps a defense on its heels. A guy like Calvin Austin should help as well because of his speed. A power running attack with the addition of Seumalo should help.

With a new QB I would lean towards the third year being the significant time period for a jump. Many players take that amount of time to get productive... Canada well we will just wait for him to jump off the team...or a bridge whichever one is closer. 😁

Look at how many players will be in that 2nd-4th year in 2024: Moore, Jones, Freiermuth, Washington, Pickett, Pickens, Austin, Harris, Warren. If you get them all to break out or hit their strides at once, this offense can be very good.

Even the Jets can't run the jet sweep properly.

That's why the Jets don't even bother running the jet sweep. That says a lot about how difficult it must be to pull off.

Goodell should make the Browns sweep the jets over at Cleveland Hopkins Airport for a week as punishment for trashing that jet they recently flew in.
