Do we play more man or go back to a majority of zone?
I thought we did pretty well with the man coverage vs Brady, definitely saw several times where he had to hold the ball for a little longer. We also have Haden coming back, him, Burns, Sutton, Hilton give us 4 guys that are pretty good at man coverage. I'd even say Burns and Sutton are more comfortable with man.
I think man defense would really allow our pressure to get to the lesser QBs we'll be facing here and give us some more reps running man in case we get NE for part 2.

Also this may be a reach, but if we play NE again, is there any way to try Brian Allen on Gronkowski when he lines up as a wide out? I know Allen is raw, but he's bigger, faster, and more athletic than Davis. He is faster, more athletic and has long arms to defend Gronk. If Gronk lines up as a traditional TE we have to hit him. It would be hard to get Allen on and off the field when needed though.
If Haden is back that would give us a 4th CB whether it's Hilton ( who did make a couple place in coverage vs Gronk) or Sutton we can match on Gronk.

With Haden coming back, I would start playing more man coverage just so everyone gets time to be more comfortable before we have to play the *Pats again.

I still do not believe that Watt would not be the perfect person to put on Gronk. Even if it is simply to line up across from him and make solid contact off the LOS. I think someone being physical with him at the LOS is the key to eliminating his effectiveness. You cannot give him a free release or let him toss you aside like a rag doll.

You know. I was REALLY impressed with the work they did with the personnel they had. To come up with that much man in that short of time and do so well against the cheats was truly impressive.

The only flaw in the game I really saw was that they failed to adjust to the change everyone on the planet knew was coming in the 2nd half and double Gronk from the start of the 2nd half until the time the P*ts debarked from their plane in Boston.

The "MIGHT" have held him to 75 or 80 in the 2nd half then. Otherwise they were GREAT. Really Great!

In 2011 we did that with Cortez Allen when he was still raw (unfortunately he never grew), he just covered gronk all game nd held him to under 100 yds and 0 tds. I actually thought of this during the game, just have Allen cover him all night, he doesn't need to know the scheme, just go wherever gronk goes.

You play whatever is necessary to win each Sunday

Yeah I saw that, I give Tomlin and the coaches a ton of credit there. I'd like to see both OLBs on the field more rather than the two ILBs and one OLB, I think Dupree and Watt are far more athletic and better player than any of our ILBs.

IMO, when Gronk lines up as TE, you put Tuitt or Heyward on top of him. At snap, they maul the **** out of him before going to Brady. While we like to say that timing is everything, we tend to forget about the frequency (radio) in which Brady finds Gronk. So we need to minimize Gronk being downfield. So, maul with Tuitt or Heyward (or even Deebo) then release him to the secondary. Hilton, as small as he is, was able to disrupt Gronk on a potential TD. Hell, even put Deebo on top of Gronk no matter which side he lines up on. Make it a Lonnnnnnnnng day for the mongloid.

Very true, but in the past when we've made crap QBs look like Montana it's been with a zone defense and our pressure not getting there.

Getting Haden back will definitely be a huge boost for this defense. Having the two outside corners able to play man and then they can mix it up in the middle of the field. The key to me is always pressure. If we pressure the QB we do very well.

How much film to you give tje cheaters on our man coverage abilities?

I believe that's why we didn't see much of it during the course of the season until the pats game. We were playing well enough on D to not put man on film. I don't think it matters now however, and we should use regularly within the scheme to always keep whoever we are playing guessing.

A smart DC or head coach knows when to play man or zone. With Haden on the mend, and Sutton adding something we could play either.

Our weakness remains the safeties who lack ball skills, sometimes tackling skills, and can not play man.

In this case, the best defense could be a fierce pass rush. That and never let Davis play cover three or man on a good TE.

They lost but typically get carved up by Brady playing zone. Play man. Id look at Watt on any tight end that remotely resembles Gronk. I think they need to look at that match up.

Moving forward though the long dark tunnel means probably having to beat that Jags team that humiliated them the last time, with no AB, and then if they're lucky, the Pats in Foxboro.

I posted in another thread a couple days ago that I think we need to go more man especially with Haden back. Going man also keeps Burns from getting burned by looking in the backfield. He and Haden can shut down just about anyone. Those two should be man almost all the time.

I had also mentioned for when we play the Cheatriots again to have Watt hitting Gronk as he is coming off the line and then have Davis take him from there. He was pushing Davis around. You need a LB hitting him at the line as he just grabs his man and throws them to the side. An obvious hold every time that is never called.

The Jags played an extraordinary defensive game and forced a ton of turnovers. If that can be cleaned up, I like the Steeler's chances against them.

I don't think anyone on the Steelers roster will be overlooking Jacksonville this time around. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a touch of that last time. Again though, the Steelers have to play some very smart ball and not let ANYTHING be left in the hands of the referees. I don't trust them for ****.

More so when playing the cheaters than any other team. I Hear exactly what you are saying..........

Just the fact that 2 of the INTs were pick-6's -- I like our chances. That first game was an aberration.

Could Burns play as a safety with both Sutton and Haden available? Sutton has held his own ground well vs. Brady. I’m intrigued with him opposite Haden. That could free Burns to cover a Gronk or at last be on him.

Well you've already shown you aren't smart enough to even understand why to play either type so your comment is useless. As is your player evaluations...what does your rag mag rank Davis at this time? Last?

Who can play man on Gronk 1x1? I've only seen one player. Eric Berry. The only one. Polamalu did but that was before Gronk settled in.

Give it a rest with your agenda....you have spewed it ad nauseam for 2 years. You were wrong then, and you are wrong now.

Why not put Watt across from him on every down, with Davis 7-10 yards behind him? Watt gives him a solid shot off the line, then runs inside while Davis picks up coverage. If the ball is handed off, Davis can shot inside to support the run. Maybe it won't work, maybe the cheats will figure out a way to exploit it with run plays or short passes to the back, but it something different we could try. Watt is fast enough to get back to run support or rush the QB after giving Gronk a shot, and Davis is big enough to offer some support against the run if need be. Maybe they could do this only on 3rd and long situations?

If that doesn't work, we should just switch to the 4-4-4 defense....

That would require a belief that the team is not run by a bunch of **** flinging monkeys.....

I believe that we should play more man on man coverage. Now that Haden is coming back. It should increase our odds of beating them in round two. PS4L!!!!!
