You guys are getting rusty.

For they record, I think this is a terrible idea. People who are blissfully ignorant should not be encouraged or made to vote.

I hadn't heard this, yet. How do you verify that people voted unless you have, wait for it......, ID to vote?

I'd say there are plenty of blissfully ignorant people who already vote, which is why we have this dumbass in the office now.

Oregon just passed an automatic registration law and everyone gets a ballot in the mail.
Your not required to turn it in though.

I'm sure it arrives with the "D" already checked.

While this may seem like a good idea, think about all the wasted money to only get a 22% return.

How 'bout this, it is MANDATORY for you to get some form of State ID. It is then MANDATORY for you to VOTE with that same ID. Bonus for you, you can also join the rest of us in the Jury pools.

Freedom isn't free.

Interesting. What is their voter turn out in relation to the rest of the state?

I don't know why people don't register to vote. I've heard some people say that it is so they can't be called for jury duty, but don't know if that is true.

Personally I am for amending the Constitution to rescind universal suffrage. I would like to see it so that if you don't work and pay taxes you don't get to vote. I'm of the opinion that this would end a lot of vote buying schemes by the Pols. I don't think you should have a say if you don't even pay.

With the internet and the ability to instantly communicate over long distances, I don't see why we don't just eliminate the politicians altogether and just go with a straight vote... it honestly couldn't be worse as long as 51% of the people didn't band together to virtually enslave the other 49%... and even then it would be about the same... lol

Bammy said in other countries citizens are required to vote...but he forgot to mention that in other countries citizens were required to have ID as well.

And required to vote for specific people in some of those countries, probably.

I dont think 90% of the population is qualified to vote. I think I am a pretty smart person, but I do not feel like I am truly qualified to vote. How many speeches / articles / voting records etc etc do the majority of people look up? Ignorant people vote based on empty promises or just believe whatever is told to them. I do not know what the solution is. I would not mind something like you need a high school diploma or GED to vote, or have to pass a basic political or civil service test.

Have we officially crossed the threshold of over 50% of the population being on the government dole (and feel free to include illegals in this assessment, since this administration is so eager to include them as voters)? If so then this makes perfect sense!

That, plus the Constitutional scholar from Harvard doesn't realize that we don't have national elections, rather we have 50 separate state elections (plus D.C. and territories).
