Social media and the Tua injury

Kind of reminds you of the Joe Theisman injury. There were so many replays it was like SB commercial break.

Salute the nation

Yeah the injury i always think of when I see that was this rb from the midd to late 90’s… i want to say he was on the oilers… not certain though…

I was watching this non Steelers preseason game and this kid was just tearing it up. He kept vaulting over tacklers though, (just like Harris does, btw) and the one announcer kept saying how dangerous it was. He did it probably three times… then on the fourth as his first leg came down he got hit by two different guys going two different ways and his leg was bent in two ways it wasn’t meant to… they showed one replay too… it was really disgusting… worse than sean spence and on par with Theisman or Kendall

I watched theismans happen. A day or two later, Letterman brought out the joe theismans pencil sharpener. The crank was on of his legs.

You just know new knee jerk reactions are going to come of this…. Guys are going to have a mandatory game off every head hit or something equally overboard and silly because the Dolphins skirted the rules…

Tua no doubt had a concussion the week before. Then he plays and sustains another injury at the same location. He probably now has a deep brain bruise that will take no less than 6 months to heal. His injury is scary, yet they put him on a plane (which is a huge no, no)! My son sustained a deep brain bruise when he wrestled in 8th grade. He lost all knowledge of who his family was - his friends had to bring him over to me because he didn't know who I was. I stayed up all night watching him and then had to go to work and my wife took over. He woke up once but still knew no one. He believed that he lived in Russia (we found out they were studying Russia in History). Later, around 3 pm, he woke up and yelled for his mom. Speaking to him, he thought he fell asleep on the bus from the middle school to the high school and was expecting to go to practice. He didn't remember any practice at all. Thankfully, my youngest had epilepsy so we had an "in" with a neurologist. We called him and spoke to him concerning the situation and he told us under no circumstance should he wrestle again that year. Another hit could leave him with seizures or worse, mentally incapacitated, possibly partially paralyzed or unable to speak. He begged and begged to return to the mat but it was an absolute no go. Scary ****!!!

I hope his family insists that he sits and is evaluated by a personal neurologist (not one paid for by the team).

Reminds me of when sydney crosby had back to back concussions and was out forever.

Tua’s injury is way down the list in seriousness and gruesomeness. People just like declaring themselves as being offended by something… anything.

Seems this Dr is a scapegoat. I hope he sues. This isn't the old days where a trainer says how many fingers then sends a guy back in there. First, the Dr is independent of the team, and second, there's a set potocol. A big part of that is the player has to be honest. If the player lies and says he's fine then what's the Dr to do?

What happens now? Well if I'm one of the Docs, every player is sitting out now. The heck with correct diagnosis. I have to please fake internet doctors now, so everybody sits. Sorry your best player will have to sit out the playoff game, I'm not losing my career.

Except what they did not tell us until over a year later was Crosby’s issue wasn’t really concussions… it was a misdiagnosis… he had a broken neck they missed… all those doctors were fired as well… the concussion he has was not the reason for the lingering issues in that case…
