Crickets thus far. How much is he going to need to stay here?

Does $$$35$$$ million per / 5 yr / $100 mil guaranteed get him to stay and finish out his career here ???

I’m not a crapologist, so not sure of the cap ramifications but with the higher cap, this might be the area he ends up in.

If like some here say he wants to be on a “winner / contender” team and think else where, what kind of $$$ching$$$ will it take to keep him.

I personally think he has wasted his prime (if he wants to win) here, and that he is at the stage of Mo-Money and retirement.

What will he get on the open market??? The face of the Elite Steelers Defense is worth a little extra $$$$

They do these deals during the summer so it'll probably be crickets for a few more months.

I hear yaz and realize that, but I was just looking for speculation as of today.

No worries.

If TJ wants to win and I don’t mean non losing seasons but really have a legit chance to win and get paid, if I were him I’d ask to be traded to a REAL contender. The Packers to me make a lot of sense who are loaded with talent and TJ could push them over the top.
Trade to the Packers for 2025 and 2026 first and second round picks. They get better instantly on defense and already are very good on offense and could give the Lions fits.
I know this won’t happen and what I do think happens is around August TJ signs a four year extension for 160 million averaging 40 million per season with at least 100 million guaranteed. That would take him to his last year and he’d be 35.
That’s the new Steeler way of doing business. It’s more important to Rooney that TJ be a one helmet guy for whatever that’s worth.

If you are a TJ fan then you would have to love to see him traded to the Packers. It gives him a much better shot at winning and he could do it in his own backyard.

As a Steelers fan, you would hate to see him go but the value you would get in return could help legitimately rebuild a team going nowere.

Steelhurt has never had a losing season.

If he wants market value its 40 mil per plus... if he takes a discount its 35 million ish

He isn’t going to take a discount. It is and always has been about the money 1st, win second.

I don’t blame these guys one single bit. Who here would give their current boss a “home-town” discount ?

Fully agree, but here lies the problem……. Current ownership / HC don’t think this is a go nowhere team…………..

I’m easily convinced to give them time should that time look to be building in the right “TEAM” direction. Lately it has been looking to only build 8-8-1 or better wins, to keep that non-losing season in tact.

This Franchise / ownership / HC have all been subject to laugh-ability. Media has been holding back in the past, due to respect for the previous Franchise / owner / coaches, but currently that shield has cracked and it’s becoming more and more apparent that there is a problem there.

Obviously us fans can see more clearly, but due to just being a fan with no stakes in the matter, we are written off. My small rebellion is VERY limited spending on Steelers stuff / NFL / viewership limited.

HOPE is deep and can be loyal to no end. It can also erode fast once the crack appears.

I hope for success and well done BBQ’d Crow with heavy Habanero - n - mustard sauce.

I can't see them trading him. He is still at the tail end of his prime. But, he will not get a "hometown discount". He will get paid $40+ million from the Steelers.

If they were smart they would trade him. They aren't..... so they won't.

Our elite players don't give home town discounts when we resign or extend them. We usually make them the top paid player at their position. Watt will probably get that again this time around also.

Playoff games won with Watt: 0
Playoff record with Watt: 0 - 4

Tomlinship's won with Watt: 8

The first step in rectifying a problem is admitting you have a problem.

The team is making millions a year in profits, that is not a problem for them.

THAT is the biggest reason we are where we are.

Being ahead of the means for the generation of income, through the NFL.

From here on down, there are many other reasons, but none top this.

Players look to similar antidote when it comes to winning and take home money, money wins out everytime.

I’d guess 4 year 165M
Match Garrett and add the 5M “good guy” bonus

First 3 years guaranteed with likely about 100M bonus money

Of course a no trade clause as well

That being said, I’d definitely at least put some quiet feelers out there to what his trade value is cuz in all honesty at this point if he can bring compensation he’s more valuable not eating the cap and bringing a couple picks in.

Unless of course Mikey has a light bulb moment and decides to not be a moron and deploy him properly so he can be effective.

The last thing the Steelers need is a guy wasting that much cap being deployed to asinine assignments.

It's not how Watt finished 2024 as much as it is how bad the entire DL finished 2024. If you are going to rush only 2 DL and 2 small OLB's, you will get eaten alive. I saw a thing earlier today about the names for D's in NFL history. Of course, the Steelers had The Steel Curtain and then Blitzburgh. If you think about it, Cowher and LeBeau created Blitzburgh and Tomlin destroyed it with his 2 DL approach that has only gotten exposed more as the years go by. I sure hope they don't reach in the 1st for a QB and take one of the top DL that will still be available. Grant, Harmon, or Nolen would be great additions to the DL.

Talk about nail meeting HaMMer, excellent post TDX27, thank you.

It wasn’t just Tomlin destroying that defense, it was Tomlin taking down one of the best defenses in the NFL. I won’t post LaBeaue’s accolades, but there was many and in all categories.

Some say the talent level was different back then but let me also point out a single player, Joey Porter, a very talented and schemed better player. Now let me mention TJ Watt, equally if not better talented, but not schemed at all…………..???

Destroyed the defense is true, but one can add several other team departments he (coach Tomlin) has fatigued as well.

I believe it was Tomlin that said a couple years ago that they do not scheme for games. He was talking about the O but I would imagine the same holds true for the D. Watt said he will be open to (and training for) moving around on the DL to create mismatches.

It's things like this that make me sad... Can you just imagine what kind of numbers TJ would put up with LeBeau at DC?

Playoff games won with Watt: 0
Playoff record with Watt: 0 - 4

I’m going to be the ***-hole that says this. But I’m a big boy. I can take the heat. And this has nothing at all to do with Tomlin.

Payoff games where Watt and the defense did absolutely anything: 0 out of 4.

One of the top paid players in the league has been average at the very best in his playoff appearances.
I say this with TJ being my favorite player on this team.

I'd trade him now for what we can get - first rounder at a minimum but to a contending team that might not be as solid a pick. TJ has been great but we can probably be 9-8 without him.

if Rodgers is coming you know rooney-tomlin-khan are keeping the band together for that elusive wildcard win...
