Ok, I've been observing the activity long enough and it's time for me to set the record straight. You can take this as you want, but this is just the way that it is.

The board can go in two directions. It can either grow, or it can die. Dave and I have chosen to keep this board alive, and SF 81 has put a lot of work the past couple of weeks to help this board grow. He asked you for your suggestions, and barely anyone has offered any input. To me, it just seems that most people on this board are just content with using the board ad free and not contribute a dime to the costs of running the board. But it all stops now.

If we want this board to grow, there's going to be a need to expand the site and advertise on social media to attract attention. We want this site to be completely interactive and make it THE place for Steelers news and discussion. We can do our part, but it also costs money. We have never made contributing a requirement, but I can tell you that once the costs of operating exceed the money coming in, this board will shut down. If that's the way it is, then that's how the cookie crumbles.

If you want this board to stick around and improve, then I suggest you put your money where your mouth is.

I was a contributor for many years. After the big crash I attempted to set up another account but it was FUBAR and after about 10 PM's it became way too much work. About that time, my interest in football in general started to wane a lot and that's pretty much where I am. Sad that it has come to ultimatums, but it is what it is I guess. I certainly don't blame anyone for not wanting to pay out of pocket to keep the site running.
 
You sure do post quite a bit to have a lack of interest..sorry that you weren't able to get your status corrected in the past but there won't be that problem anymore.

I figure for as long as some of you have been around you could give us the benefit of the doubt. 7 bucks a month is very affordable..

We have some HUGE! news coming about the site. Ironing out some details now but we will fill everyone in soon.
 
this makes me feel like I'm stealing just for coming here and unable to contribute. Just hope you don't block non-donators from at least reading the Forum.

I've been here for years, and I've also been working in pc's in one way or another since the mid 90's. Internet connections are cheap as **** now compared to what they were (I had verizon 80 up and 80 down, now since I don't actually run a server I have comcast, 130 down 10 up). Runs about 50 per month. Not sure what types of servers you guys are hosting the bb on, but if you need donations for hardware, let me know what you're looking for. Guy at work picked up a hexacore with 96gigs of ram for 2,500 because it was 2 years old, and you can literally spin off 10-12 powerful vm's from that without batting an eye. I already contribute, and have been for several years, 6 bucks is a small price for what we get here. I wouldn't be totally against going ad based if need be, if it's that or shut it down, I say go ad based, but that's just me.

I really don't need bells and whistles. I'm just happy to have the board around. I've been a contributor for several years...didn't get the tag the last time we had to re-register. No big deal. Figured as long as Buff knew I was supporting the cause, it didn't matter to me.

I'm sorry Buff. I will put a check in the mail tomorrow. I don't use Paypal, and I'm really bad about writing checks, addressing envelopes and finding stamps in my house since we pay virtually everything online. My suggestion is a way to pay by CC without Paypal. I know that's probably expensive for you guys though.

Actually you can do that. Go through the pay-pal prompt and there should be an option at the bottom of the screen where you can pay by check or CC

Ok I am going to contribute again, but be warned, every time I have in the past the board crashed or was reimagined within a month or so... I am not responsible if it happens again...lol

Random question and I know the answer is probably " it depends" but approx. how much is needed per month to keep this place up and running
