James Washington: More flashes in the pan, or is he becoming a #1 receiver?

Washington, for whatever reason, never developed chemistry with Ben in a pretty bad rookie year.

This season I expected him to have better chemistry with Rudolph who played with him in college, but that was inconsistent.

Suddenly with Duck at QB, he's hitting his stride with 111 yards in the last game and 98 yards in the game before. Each game had an impressive TD catch.

The question is, can he maintain this level of excellent play?

I don't think Washington will be a #1 WR but could very well be a decent #2, speed thingy. Washington is best at contested "combat" catches. I see very good body and hand placement per the position of the catch. I also see strong body after the catch. He doesn't seem to be knocked around like a pin ball. Concentration is pretty good too.

I think up until recently (this year) THE THROWS HIS WAY HAVEN'T BEEN CONsistent and he's had to extend his catch zone to accommodate. DUCK gets the ball with-in his normal catch circle and thus allows him to use his stregnth.

I want James to be the best he can be and hopefully he and DJ can take this season ride to the house.............. The Flying V

Washington has made some great catches on horribly thrown balls the last couple games. Imagine what he can do if someone would hit him in stride more often. He can be a difference maker. Hopefully with the QB position settled, we will see more of that.

Well that’s the thing. Coming out of college the report on him was that he makes the combat or contested catch. Never more apparent than that TD last week when he was interfered with and still cane down with the ball. James will never be a no. 1 but could develop into a good no. 2 receiver. I actually think this team has it’s not. 2 in JuJu who I think is not and will not be a true no. 1.
I still think we need to get a no.1 somehow,some way but he’s not on our roster.

Not a #1. He needs to sharpen routes. Great #2 potential though.

Maybe he got some self confidence last week and maybe Tomlin will put him on the field

When to throw the deep matters. Duck seems to just see a guy open deep and fires the ball down the field. It its 40+ yards in the air, the defense might catch up as his velocity on the ball is average. Ben is a very good deep passer, partly because he can buy himself a 2nd chance and partly because he has the arm to get it deep. At times I think he waits tick too long to pull the trigger.

Washington has been a difference maker lately. I always say three games in a row is not a fluke. This Sunday is the 3rd game. Another 100 yards and a big play and I'll be sold.
