Mock draft season is upon us as you can’t seem to scroll through any website that covers the NFL without seeing their latest and greatest 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

Each Monday, SteelerNation will be putting out their 3M’s Mock Drafts by three writers (Mike Stiffler, Matt Papiernik, and Ben Michaelian) who will be rotating through three mock draft simulators. We all coincidentally have a name leading with the letter M, hence the catchy title.

The three simulators we will be rotating through are Pro Football Focus’, Pro Football Network’s, and The Draft Network’s. By doing three different simulators and rotating through them all, it will give everyone a good feel of who will be available and how the Pittsburgh Steelers draft could shake out this April.

Below are the three mock drafts for this week. We started with Mike taking TDN, Ben taking PFN, and I took PFF. Here is a link to last week’s as well.

Here is Mike’s:

Mike wrote: “Wilson is just too hard to pass up. While WR isn’t the biggest need, it is still a need for the Steelers. Outside of Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool, the Steelers don’t have much depth too be overly excited about. Wilson has the opportunity to be one of the top young receivers in the NFL and pairing him with a route technician like Johnson and a big play guy like Claypool could put the Steelers in prime position to battle some of the elite offenses in the NFL. Jones can come in and be a great rotational guy for the Steelers not only in sub packages but behind Tyson Alualu as well. Jones has good enough anchor to help solidify the run defense and the Steelers need that as Alualu’s season ending injury seemed to be the downfall of a once stout run defense. Chenal adds to that as a 6’3 250lb linebacker who can run downhill. Chenal excels at really anchoring down and not giving up ground when meeting blockers head on. He gives an old school feel to a defense who badly needs to stop “old school” football. Robinson is someone who brings experience with him starting 38 games in his college career. He is going to need some work to truly fine tune his craft in order to see the field in the NFL but has the mean streak demeanor the Steelers are looking for. Pola Mao has good bloodlines as the nephew of Hall of Fame legend Troy Polamalu. He has rare size for a safety at 6’4” and could prove to be a great special teaser early on. Last but not least Chandler is a change of pace back that the Steelers could use since the Anthony McFarland experiment has not quite worked out. Chandler won’t see the field much with Najee Harris, but the Steelers need a different skill set to add to the group.

Now let’s take a look at Ben’s:

Ben wrote: “To preface, although PFN throws some very intriguing trade offers at you in their simulator, I did this one ‘au naturel’; no trades or anything special. You’ll see this one is packed with value picks. So first I had Linderbaum drop in my lap and grabbed him. He’s a name Steeler Nation has been following more and more and rightfully so. Assuming the Steelers aren’t landing a FA center, Linderbaum is the starter. Next I took Devonte Wyatt, and why not? He had one of the best combines and proved his ceiling is higher than what some may have thought. I still consider DL high priority in this draft. Next I took Demone Clark at ILB. Clark has a high motor and Brian Flores would work well with him to groom him to be that steady middle linebacker Steelers fans love. Next I went running back with James Cook. He’d be a great change of pace back paired with Najee Harris and would add another element into their revamped rush attack. After Cook, I took Bo Melton who is very similar to Ray-Ray McCloud. If the Steelers let McCloud walk, Melton would be that gadget player who would be a return specialist and inside receiver. I like Melton’s upside potential even more after watching him at the combine. Finally I took a flier cornerback in the 7th round on Chris Steele. Steele reminds me in a way of last year’s 7th round DB pick in Tre Norwood. Steele plays best in press coverage and can be coached up to play either in the slot or outside.”

Lastly, lets take a look at mine:

What I had to say about my mock: “First round wide receivers are going to constantly be questioned by viewers, but I don’t care. There is just to good of value in the first round with some of these WRs. There are arguably 4-5 I’d love for the Steelers to take, and Chris Olave is one of them. He proved he has elite speed running a 4.39s 40-yard dash at the combine, and that’s on top of being arguably the best route runner in the class. Travis Jones in the 2nd is also someone who I will always mock to the Steelers if he is there. He can be the eventual heir to Tyson Alualu, and also give the defensive line incredible versatility in year 1. The next two picks for me are incredible value picks. Beavers is a more NFL ready Vince Williams coming out of college, and should be a tremendous piece for Brian Flores to use as both a run stuffer and blitzer. Most people will think I am crazy waiting until the end of the 4th round to address the offensive line, but I am assuming that happens in free agency. Goedeke is the ultimate utility piece for them, as he has been a mauling tackle but most likely will be best at guard. He can give them some versatility very early in his career. The last three picks all have high athletic traits for their positions. Woods is a more athletic Zach Gentry, but very new to the position. Give him a year or two as the #3 tight end and he could develop into a great compliment on offense. Markquese Bell is a twitched up box safety that will excel on special teams early in his career, and could work early in some goaline packages. I think the Steelers will add a veteran back this offseason, but adding someone like Ty Chandler also with exceptional passing game ability and breakaway speed can give their offense more explosive plays they definitely been missing.”

All these simulators always obviously rank people in very different locations, but you can see trends in all of these as well as some overlapping names. These different simulators also have some different draft picks for the Steelers, as they all don’t have compensatory picks factored in or in the same locations.

Let us know below what you think of all of our mocks we did this week and who you think would be good prospects to look into!
