Team was 2-6 and looking at draft position. Have gone 6-2 since with a rookie QB and their 8-8 record is not due to an easy schedule:

5th toughest schedule in the NFL. Have played the Eagles, Bills, Rats x 2, Bungles x 2, and are 5-4 on the road. The AFC playoff teams right now are:

1. Bills
2. Chiefs
3. Bengals
4. Jaguars
5. Chargers
6. Ravens
7. Patriots

8. Dolphins

So the Steelers have played 7 games against the 8 top ranked AFC playoff contenders. They also played the #1 and #4 seeds in the NFC,

I hear what you're saying and agree with you but you can only play the schedule put in from of you, right? I mean you never really know for the most part what teams will turn out being good teams year to year and what teams take a dip year to year.
I thought the Chargers would be lights out this year and even though they made the playoffs, don't see them as being special at all. The Jags were horrible last year and had nowhere to go but up. I love the job Coach Pederson has done with Trevor and this team and see them as a perennial power.
We lost some games that were so ******* winnable it is truly sad. Pats, Jets, Dolphins,Ravens all very winnable games but you just never know from week to week. I always like most here try to determine each year the wins and loses when the schedule is released and I always blow it.

Interesting post. Very clear and concise.

Gonna have to take a point off for the comma after NFC though...

Tomlin, Cool Shades, Mikey T, whatever we want to refer to him as has actually done a good job of not losing this team.
As most of you know I am not a Tomlin fan and won’t be sad when he goes but I will also give him props when deserved and he has kept this group together when it looked like the wheels were coming off.
Whether we make the playoffs or not I’m anxious to see how he responds in the off season working with Omar and Andy. Can he assist in making this football team better? Will he replace the coaches that need replaced? Do we play well next year and make the playoffs and actually win in the playoffs?
He’s not going anywhere so I have to hope he does well for us to be successful. We shall see!

However they only have two wins against teams with winning records.
Also continuing their established tradition of losing any game in which TJ Watt does not play or leaves early.
Lotta mediocrity in the NFL this year. Lotta teams in the playoffs have records at or near .500.
Averaging 17.5 ppg, 29th in the NFL.
OL has improved from horrible to almost decent.
Pickett gets better every week.
Spillane has improved enough to keep Bush on the bench.
