Steelers and Gilbert talking extension

This is extremely premature at this point, and in my opinion, foolish. He has not been very good at all. I'd love to see him turn it around this year, but to extend him now would be dumb.

I agree. He doesn't deserve an extension at this point.

Could it be to maybe light one last fire under Adams and I it doesn't work. Maybe cut ties and get a cheaper veteran backup that who was camp casualty?

Unless you can get any of these guys on incentive laid contracts I would wait out the season.

Apparently he improved over the year last year and has trained hard in the offseason and has looked very good so far. They may be able to get him at a good price now - especially if he is going to be a starter. If he plays well this year and they have to sign him next year, they may not be able to afford what he would demand. Similar to Worilds here. Worilds wants top 5 money and just hasn't shown it but if he has a good year, he is gone. Worilds already turned down the Steelers best and final. Let's see if we can get Gilbert at a decent price.

I see your point TDX27, but one week of training camp shouldn't be enough to justify an extension after 3 sub par seasons. Let's not lock up big cap space untill we know he's actually turned the corner.

Since when has it been that every guy who is drafted has to come in and be great right away? Some guys take a bit of time.

I remember a kid from elementary school. Every once and again he would pee his pants and there would be a puddle on the floor. Kids would yell out, "Robbie peed his pants again!" This was when shaming a kid was OK. We did the egg drop experiment. Robbie's egg ended up on the floor 2 hours before we were to drop them off the roof.

Robbie is a very successful doctor now.

I hear ya but if they can lock him up at a good price, then I say pull the trigger.

Gilbert played hurt last year and toughed it by not missing a game. The team ran better and protected better over the second half of the year. Gilbert was a part of that and him Decastro are gelling together on the right side. If he doesnt want the world I say pull the trigger

I'm sure the coaches know a heck of a lot more than we do. They see him daily, his development, etc.. If they say sign, then I'm with it.

Salute the nation

It does not appear that any of our tackles are that good. We will have guys filling in the positions on the team but it is unlikely they could beat out most others at their position in the league right now. We maybe needing to have these guys signed to a cap friendly or at least reasonable deal to insure that we at least have somebody to play the position. Their replacement maybe in next years draft for a left or really good right tackle. I hope the team looks at what they will likely have next year when considering extensions and considers they may need to trade up to get what they need in the draft or trade a pick to another team for someone like they did with Bettis.
Right now we have players at the position and that's about all you can say.

Fine with him at Rt was hoping Adams could win the job since he is more athletic and since Gilbert is a plodder, he does run block well but haley when we spread out must get ben to roll the other way b/c Gilbert's poor footwork gets him beaten quickly off the snap.
