Steelers claim punter from Jets

Presley Harvin has NOT lived up to his hype or expectations. He hasn’t popped !

We need legitimate competition for the prunter position.

SIDE NOTE: We could use legitimate competition for the Special Teams Coach position as well.

Both the Special Teams Coach and Harvin are Tomlin's guy. So...

I don't see the competition in that one kick...average and damn near broke his collarbone trying to tackle a WR...meh.

Tomlin’s ”guy” has been replaced in the past, I was hoping for some change in current time.

As for STs coach, he has been kept around to long and I do think that is a little attributed to their history.

I understand how a great college player may not turn out to be so great in in the pros...except if he's a punter.
A punter that was great in college should also be great in the pros...the length of the field is the same, he doesn't run, tackle or block, he makes no contact with anyone.
All he does is kick the fukkin ball!
What is up with that?
If no one can provide me the answer, I will ask someone that will. Coach?

And every time Mann shanks a punt it's gonna be like:

Same size off the field. But the STs is faster to the ball and NFL teams are trying to limit their returns. So directional punting ability, get off time, and hangtime are relevant. I have to disagree with the notion that all the punter is doing is punting.

So the bottom line is the speed of the ST's. Hang time and directional are relevant in college too, but slower ST's in college makes it easier for the punter to succeed in those parameters.

I guess I'll have to accept that the ST's in the pros getting to the ball faster as being the reason., even if it is only less than a second faster.

How long does a punter have to kick?
Good hands are a must. Between catching the snap and foot punting the ball, the punter has only 1.15 to 1.3 seconds. Total operation time including the snap is around 2.1 seconds in college.

Harvin had a lot of promise coming out of college. I know he had issues in his first year dealing with his dad dying but he only improved marginally last year. He needs a good punting coach and mental coach. He still has the talent. He just doesn't put it on the field consistently.

So is a big leg and constancy. And the get of time of the punt.

There is a lot that goes into net average. Mann is better than Harvin III. The vast majority of punters are. If Harvin III took his job seriously he would lose that belly! Dude is a fat rear ended pot bellied guy. This matters some,as he could get off his punts a tad quicker. His belly might rob him a little of leg extension. Football is game of inches and tenths of a second. He is " listed " at 255 pounds. I bet he is heavier that that.

A bonus would be a punter who can get down the field and tackle and pass for trick play options. Lets just say he isn't fast as he ran a 4.95

If the punter is such a Tomlin guy would they have claimed this guy off waivers? So...

We have new GM's they claim guys on free agency. Tomilin picks who makes the team. Last year with Barry and the other guy Tomlin cut were better.

Mann was drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round with the 191st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

During the game against the Los Angeles Rams, Mann made a game-saving, open-field tackle on punt returner Nsimba Webster that helped seal the Jets' 23–20 victory. The Jets finished the season 2–14. Mann compiled 3,598 total yards, with a 43.9 punting average. His 3,598 total yards made him the 2020 NFL punting yards leader

Slash had sort of implied that when mentioning the speed of the pro game.

But to your other point, and a good one in my humble opinion...being fat and lazy is no way to go through a football career or you wont have one.

Body size too.

I have a friend who got to Denver training camp all the way to the end. He was easily the fasted / accurate / in long snapping. What got him cut was he was 1 1/4” to short. They said he was to close to the ground for a long snapper.

So, the metrics in college doesn’t necessarily translate to the PROs.

Isn’t that part of the STs coach?????? Shouldn’t he be getting the best out of him???

Bubbles showed his preparedness when The BOZ got knocked the F out. Bubbles pranced Harvin out there knowing he never had a chance. Shouldn’t your emergency back up at least have been schooled on what to do????

STs need a coach who can coach.

The LUXURY S10 has had it‘s share of bubble gummer’s, but at least they needed only
minimal coaching… by an expert. (Lunar & Paul asked for ID after the lesson) (in their defense, only one was close)
