Steelers Defense is terrible

Can someone explain how we can play so terrible for weeks - play one good game against Baltimore - then play so terribly against the Vikings?
It's only the 2nd quarter and I will be shocked if we keep the Vikings under 40 pts with the way this defense is playing.
 
Honestly, aside from Watt, Heyward and Fitzpatrick, it's kind of a bunch of fringe starters and back up types.

CB, DL and ILB are all huge needs going into the offseason.
 
You make all these moves to be competitive and you play without a Mac linebacker. None. Literally Bush makes Jarvis Jones look all pro.
 
176 yards rushing in A HALF!!!! **** Tomlin, Butler and Colbert for masterminding this train wreck.
 
Tomlin has to go. The team has left him. Quit on him. This is wholly about leadership. A huge shake up is due. We are far worse than our record indicates. Far worse.

Yep. Wormley is like a No. 4 DL. Loudermilk shows potential but is a developmental player. The rest of the DL are fringe roster guys. They don't have a true starter at CB, with Sutton being a No. 3 in the No. 1 role. The ILBs should be better but are playing at a backup level. Highsmith has potential but isn't productive yet. Edmunds is just a guy. Just look at the body language from the four big veterans on this team: Ben, Cam, TJ, and Fitzpatrick. It says it all. The rest of this roster blows.
 
There is a lot of questionable individual play. But this remains on the coaches. The coaches are not even remotely putting this team in a position to win. The offensive play calling is atrocious and the D play calling isn't much better. Ben is likely wondering why he stayed. If you look at his face during and after every drive he legit has no idea what the Steelers are doing. Nor do I.
 
I honestly don't understand how you can start Bush each week. Terrible. Just terrible. Possibly only rivaled by Edmunds inability to stay in position to maintain his assignment.

Do we HAVE to complete Bush's entire rookie contract ? Is it necessary ?
 
We didn't play great against the Rats. We were pushed around all 1st half and let them score the late TD and were lucky to get the 2 point conversion dropped. We have now given up 137 points the last 4 games. This is Tomlin's defense 100 percent. Jefferson dropped 2TDs or it would have been 50 tonight.

Can someone explain how we had better efficiency when TJ and highsmith were out of the game? I cannot

The 3/4 defensive set is totally built on the Dline controlling the los.. the larger DTs and ends need to require at least partial double teams and provide clean lanes for the lbs to make plays

Outside of heyward that isn’t happening
Too many guys either are outright losing individual battles or play the position like it was a 4/3 and lose gap contain trying to make plays they should not have to

This leads to the lbs being less effective… TJ getting double teamed, hightower and the ilbs often getting just eliminated from plays… the secondary is totally built on pressure limiting coverage time… its not set up to cover guys for five seconds… most of our cbs and slot safeties dont have long field speed…

So basically in the run game the gap contain breaks down at the dline, and on pass plays we aren’t getting pressure consistently when watt isn’t being a beast…

Against the Ravens or other run heavy teams the dline scrubs play correctly because its drilled into them to respect the run game… its the teams they just try to play however they want that it falls apart…

You saw a much more disciplined dline gett better results in the second half… that wasn’t anything but playing the front the proper way

What I want to see is who will be the scapegoat this off season? No shortage of candidates with Canada, Butler, Klemm. I know who it sure as hell won't be.

Yep and that makes them fatally flawed. They need a culture change. Run off the weak mental midget players who'd rather goof around half the time. Bring in guys who want to work and accomplish great things.

As much as hate to say it they need to copy the pats***. They used to be that kind of team, all about buisness.Doing the little things right,fundamentals and holding each other accountable.Now it's all about bullshit.

I'm seriously waiting for Minkah or one of the other defensive players to get into a fight on the field...
