Trying to figure out what our board may look like when it comes to the D-line.

Seems we're in good shape at DE with Cam & Tuitt with Alualu and Walton behind them.

So the focus is adding a NT/DT. I look at McCullers as being a camp body at this stage, so it's basically Javon Hargrave we can count on. I think Hargrave is a good, better-than-average player, but really seems best suited for a situational, rotational role as opposed to being the anchor of the line. Our run D was atrocious at various points last season, something needs to be done to shore that up.

So the question is, which draft prospects could the Steelers be looking at in the draft, early, middle and late?

The list starts with Vita Vea and De'Ron Payne. Either one of those guys are a plug 'n play NT on our team, though highly likely neither will slide to #28. And it gets murky after that.

Feel free to post some options you guys have looked at, even late round guys, that could play NT in our system, either as a starter or a solid rotational player to pair with Hargrave.

I'm on board with NT early Tibs. If Payne is sitting there at 1-28, I hope we grab him. Most don't see the draft breaking that way though so another kid I'd like to see in B & G is Tim Settle out of VT. He may be available 3-92.

Yeah I've been looking at Settle as a possible mid-round pick. Steelers love the really young guys, and this kid is as young as they come. Seems he has all the tools and unlimited potential. Could be the real deal in a year or two.

Another guy for maybe a bit later in the draft is Folorunso Fatukasi from UConn. Seems like he too could be the answer in the middle.

Payne in the 1st if Esch and the top 2 safeties are off the board.

Phillips would be a great pick for round two.

Esch will be gone...I see the Pats taking him..

Not so much on board with the safeties over Payne..

Late or udfa. They're not going after true NTs anymore. Hargrave is the guy.

Word is the Steelers are happy with Hargrave and think his play was was solid before the injury so don't expect a NT to be drafted early.

my top 3 in order if the immediate impact they will help the dl
1 Settle has potential to be a Hampton or Marcus Stroud stout run defender and clogger
2 Derrick nnandi low leverage strong as an oxe requires a double team, would immediately either send big dan packing or earn the starting job and force butler to use more 3-2-6 or 3-3-5 where he would have to kick hargrave to DE and use a dl of de hrgrave dt nnandi dt heyward olb tuitt mlb Watt olb dupree
3 Bj Hill has the tooks has the bulk and agility to break plays in the backfield

A guy I'd like in round two and love in round three is Harrison Phillips. His production for a DT/NT is very rare. Makes a lot of tackles and plays in the back field, with excellent effort and motor. I could see him adding a lot of value in the nickel as a DT or any four man front.

Check out his 2017 stats, some here might say that's even better than Ed Oliver! Harrison Phillips 2017: 14 games played, 98 tackles ( VERY RARE FOR A DT ), 17 tackles for losses ( VERY RARE FOR A DT ), 7.5 sacks ( Decent for a DT ) 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recovery. This kid finds a way.

Cooley is going to get that *** when yinz lose that bet.

Cooley is going to get that *** when yinz lose that bet.

Only he didn't bet. I did say Oliver won't be a top 10 pick. He declined to wager and thinks in a Jim Carrey type of way there's a chance a DT from a mediocre program will win the Heisman. My retort, he'd better had a ton of sacks and plays in the backfield, which he has not come close to making as a player.

But production wise, Harrison Phillips made a lot of plays! Having said that I'd be perfectly fine with the Steelers drafting Oliver with the 32nd overall pick in 2019. Even Coolie would be down for that.
