Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Diontae Johnson was not the biggest receiver in the 2019 draft nor was he the most highly regarded, but if there is one position the Steelers organization always seems to scout well it’s at wide receiver. Johnson could be an incredible talent in the league and may even make his way up […]

He could make an impact this year but the overwhelming odds are he will do nothing this year. If he has 30 catches this year with very minimal drops, it will have been a good year for him.

I'm thinking more along the lines that Moncrief and Washington are going to both get 50+ catches and one of them will get 75+ to go with JuJu's 100+.

Washington showed little last year, DM although you would think his troubles were more QB driven still has to prove otherwise.

I think how much he does or doesn't contribute will depend more on him than what the other two do.

If he shines in preseason, you can bank he will see some looks. That is where the odds lay their head to rest.

I don't see JuJu with a 100+ catches but I see Moncreif doing a little more than expected. WASHINGTON and the new kid are the X factor and I hope both step it up and produce. Ben will find a way to get the ball to his receivers it's just a question as to which receivers get it.

Johnson will be the primary punt return guy, getting the other midget off the field

I think D. Johnson's IMMEDIATE impact will be punt/kick returns.
IF he can learn the offense and get into a rhythm with Ben, at best/most, he'll see 40 catches.
But that's even doubtful.
Looking up the best rookie WR seasons in NFL history, Percy Harvin checks in at #10.
60 catches, 790 yards, 6 TDs.
Those aren't exactly earth shattering and it's 10th best ALL TIME.
We need to temper expectations.
But yes, it would be nice if D. Johnson can come in and contribute on offense and show growth his rookie season by staying healthy and learning/practicing ALL he can.

With all the AB drama, and JuJu becoming such a force, there weren't enough balls to go around, PLUS as a QB you go where passes pay off. Washington was a rookie and played like one. Even some of the best WRs of all time did very little as a rookie. I put almost zero stock in JW's rookie season. I think he may come on this season, especially if JuJu or Moncrief get hurt.

I find it pretty unlikely DJ will do much this season, him being the rookie this season.

My vote for rookie with biggest impact is the obvious one: Devin. If he is worth that I think he is, who is going to keep him off the field? He ALREADY is said to know a lot of the calls and formations. He was barking out calls in OTAs.

The other player who could produce, to me, is Snell. Yes, only if JC goes down, but history - and his running style - indicates that is very possible. I believe once Snell gets some carries he will prove to be too much better than Samuels to keep off the field. Snell could very well be our new Barry Bananas Foster.

I thought this thread was gonna be about Bush.

Moncreif is gonna explode.

Go Boom.

Fantasy SOD.

I don't know...

I have a really 'good' feeling that Young Johnson has a lot of odds already stacked in his favor. The kid IS NOT AB; but his game play is eerily similar. Take a look at the article in the OP - the kid dominates the route tree and we have heard about his success when releasing from the line.

So, call me crazy, but I can see him (if all goes as planned) with 50-60 catches by year end.

The pick shocked me at first but it has grown on me since then.

He could be an anomaly in that regards but in order for him to get 50-60 catches would mean someone above him got hurt......... I'm hoping you are right but I see 1/2 that number on a healthy team basis.

Is he the next Antonio Brown 16 rec, 167 yds, 0 tds rookie numbers or
Troy Edwards 61 rec 714 yds 5 tds rookie numbers

Rookie numbers don't tell a career, even Washington had slightly better first year numbers than AB

I want to see JUJU, Washington, Moncrief, McDonald and Johnson all get 100 yds. I would also like to see Ben put up numbers that it would be an embarrassment for him NOT to get MVP.

Not going to lie, but I'm more excited about Moncrief's potential over Johnson and Washington.

Yeah, same here. An actual QB throwing to him; this isn't Justin Hunter.

I do like that Washington slimmed down and is apparently taking his sophomore year very seriously. He did end things on a good note last season. Pats game was especially encouraging.

And good to see you mf'er.

I guess it depends on what you consider an impact. If you are thinking an Odell Beckham type rookie year, then I doubt it. But he can very easily have a Martavis Bryant type impact, meaning not a bunch of big stats but a bunch of key plays.

I do think Moncrief has a shot at a big season. The steelers have a role for a deep threat specialist. They have for years. JuJu does his best work in the slot over the middle. Johnson will likely specialize in the shorter quick routes that were a big part of AB's game.

Washington has a shot at good stats too, but Moncrief has more deep speed so he may have the best shot to be the new Martavis deep threat. You see how Ted Ginn has done well in that role for the Saints alongside Michael Thomas who is physical like JuJu

Same here. However Moncrief's never had a high target to catch ratio. His hands aren't great. So we'll see. We need a good #2 receiver. It we have a #3 a rookie and a 2nd year player with a lot to prove...we will have to use the back and TE's a bit more in the passing game.

Waiting to see Alexander Myers take over someone's spot.....
