The Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-1 to begin the 2023 season, but the preseason hype bubble has been significantly deflated after a couple of underwhelming offensive performances. The team is ranked 31st in the NFL in total yards per game through the first two weeks and nothing has gone according to plan as the offense has only found the end zone two times in as many games. A lot of the blame has been thrown at Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada and second-year quarterback, Kenny Pickett. Overall, it's a team sport and all of the fault can't be on two individuals alone.

Very interesting spin that really hasn't been touched on. If I had to guess I would say it is the scheme over effort. Hoge is decent in evaluating so I can't deny his overall perception.

So if you add that to crappy O-line play and a running attack not stellar and if he questions the scheme and coordinator, that is a lot of the plate for a green QB still learning his way.

If they hold onto the same coaches probably not. Still it can improve to being a little more productive than a TD a game. The level it is at now is beyond pathetic.

Until people are made accountable nothing really ever changes season to season.
Tomlin is a defensive minded coach and I’m still astounded with him making Austin the DC.
At some point Tomlin has to be made accountable for these horrible Coordinator hires and I won’t even get into the OC.
The organization is still stuck with this archaic “defense wins championships” mentality and I wish that it did but that’s not how the NFL rolls now.
Offense takes front and center stage and it’s all about lighting up the scoreboard. The Steeler are waaay behind on offense and think that a ball control offense with a strong defense will win. Number one, they can’t run the ball so they’re not controlling anything.
This organization has to get their head out of their *** and rethink exactly what it is they want to do.
What they are doing clearly isn’t working unless 9-8 seasons are your cup of tea.
Really too late now to really do anything but after this season I’m flush out as many as these coaches as possible and that includes the head coach. Unless 9-8 is your cup of tea!

It doesn't look like our offense can win 9 games right now. We barely even score.

The issue is likely that the wrs and Tes in routes over the middle and deep know they aren’t going to get the ball because they are low on the reads.. and are not selling the routes… which leads to really horrible results if the qb does throw the route and doesn’t make all the defenders commit to routes which can ruin play design…


Honestly if this is true then the players aren’t buying in to the scheme, or don’t understand the importance of their roles… its bad.

Great take by Hoge, as usual. I have no doubt he is spot-on with the receivers. DJ was by far our best route runner and guy able to get open consistently. And, that's the point, they have to be consistent for KP to have confidence in what and where he is throwing. But, Canaduh still sucks. That is well documented by his play calls.

Every single one of our coaches totally suck at their job! They are bottom of the barrel hires that no other team would have on staff. Why? Because Tomlin and the Steelers are a dead end job - it is the graveyard of coaching and everyone knows it. We have discussed it many times that Tomlin does not have a coaching tree. So, why would any good coach want to come here when they know their is no where else to go from there! Until they rid themselves of Tomlin, this team will be "Browns" bottom for years to come. We are going to get a really big taste of what it's like to be a Browns fan!

Yeah he has 7 catches off of 10 targets, but they don’t target him deep or over the middle so basically his speed is wasted

0I made the comment in the game thread about a pass Kenny through way in front of the receiver over the middle that the receiver was not going full speed. Many disagreed. Kenny is looking for people to be in place the are not. I don't think it is all his fault.
