Steelers trade for Phillips

The Steelers traded for Washington Redskins cornerback Deshaun Phillips.

The Steelers completed what was a busy day of transactions when they traded for Washington Redskins cornerback Dashaun Phillips in exchange for center Lucas Crowley.

Phillips played in five games for the Redskins in 2016, starting two, in the nickel role. He had seven tackles and a fumble recovery. He has played in 11 games, with 14 tackles, nine of them solo stops, in two seasons.

Phillips originally was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014. He was waived by the Cowboys before the start of the season, and later signed to the New York Jets practice squad in October, 2014.

He was signed to the Redskins practice squad in 2015, and then placed on the active roster later in the season.

Phillips played college ball at Tarleton State, a Division II school in Texas. He finished his career with 175 career tackles, 12 interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Earlier in the day the Steelers signed cornerback Antonio Crawford, and released running back Brandon Brown-Dukes. The Steelers also signed rookie wide receiver Justin Thomas. In a corresponding move the Steelers waived/injured third-year cornerback Greg Ducre.

My reaction......traded who? For who?
I reckon they are throwing anything and everything out there hoping something sticks.
Our pass rush better kick *** this season is all I can say.

They've been going after DB's for a while now. After the first 2 defensive series vs ATL, they should be looking for help based on that performance. Solid DB'S are slim pickings with all the rule changes.

Still a half measure, this ain't improving the secondary. Hilton working his way up the depth chart and Golson and Simmons getting healthy might.

Well last week watching all three Matts on the Falcons tear up our secondary on 3rd & long situations and knowing that Cody Sensabaugh is pushing Cockrell for the #2 DB spot shows that we have absolutely nothing behind Artie Burns in our secondary!

The Steeler's Front office should be wheeling and dealing some of our WR's out there for a solid #2 DB on a roster. We've got WR's like Sammie Coates, Cobi Hamilton, Justin Hunter, Darrius Heyward Bey, & Demarcus Ayers all bubble guys who most likely three possibly four of these guys end up getting cut. They all have some trade value right now....we seem to be a factory for WR's lately.....Front Office needs to get us some quality DB's. After seeing Atlanta tear our secondary apart it's the only thing that can keep us from the Super Bowl.

Mr. Crowley, what went on in your head?
Oh, Mr. Crowley, did you talk to the dead?
Your life style to me seemed so tragic
With the late training camp thrill of it all
You fooled all the people with Center magic
Yeah, you waited on Redskin's call

Listen if they can't get to the qb and give opposing offenses all day to throw the ball. It won't matter who they have at corner. Everything starts at the line. The Steelers need a fantastic red zone defense and to make the middle of the field a hell zone for other teams. It's either that or you have to score A LOT.

Are you LeVeon's new "page" man?????? The longer he holds out the more you get to write...........

Are you the one whispering in his ear
thus prolonging your own career
Writing angry them with little rhyme
Working and scribbling all the time
Bust it open writing brigade
Nap time if must but drink lemonade
Doghouse in RB rotation
No show disapoint STEELERNATION

We definately need a higher quality CB. Our coach who happens to be penned as a defensive secondary guru should be able to find WAY BETTER personal in the DB department. Why can't he??? Some refer to the WR position but I don't think Coach Tomlin has much to do with that. I can only hope after final cut down we might get someone with a UPGRADE in talent. These recent body's aren't much if any upgrade, still in QUICKSAND.

Salute the nation

To late now but they easily could have been proactive during FA the last number of years. I'm sure they have it all figured out this year though. Surprise us Tolbert.

Steelers released Antonio Crawford as waived/injured this morning. Signed yesterday.

Also the Steelers thought Phillips looked good against them week 1 last year so they kept his file. Came in handy.

short quick passes nullifies the pass rush, the blueprint is out there

Steelers still sell out to stop the run and get burned regularly on early downs

Good teams don't even try to run much anymore, pass pass pass and the rush never gets there....so of course we put all our money in LB's that never get there and leave the CB's hanging

at least Watt, Shazier and Dupree are quick enough to cover some

yeah - but our lumbering line needs pressure up the middle for any pass D to work

I'll believe it when I see it

What we have here is a failure to communicate....our knowledge and experience to the Steeler coaches. You'da thunk by now they would be listening to what we all know to be a problem and fix it once and for all. Look at the teams that can take average players and be effective by putting them in positions of strength not broad based systems with a big hole in the middle of the field....jus sayin'

So..who wears this tag ?
