The most hated man in town has been fired. Pitt fans want Wanny as the AD.

Good AD in many respects but unable to run a football program and hire coaches for sure. Unfortunately I think the bridge with Stache has been burned.
There is a job open a few miles south at WVU as AD Oliver Luck resigned this morning to take a job as executive vice president with the NCAA.

I still think Pederson was rather good in everything non football related, but we all know that college sports is a ***** for football. I just hope the next guy they bring in has the whole picture in mind and isn't just a football guy.

If by "football" you mean money, then yes, college sports is a *****.

Lotta money in basketball too but it doesn't cost as much to run that program.

I agree that Pederson was good for the athletic program on the whole, but football was a disaster. They definitely need an athletic director who can continue to promote and grow all sports, but get the football program back on track. I'd also love to see them fully embrace the Script and old color scheme. I saw some great mock ups of uniforms that the football team could wear. A updated look of their old uniforms, but it still maintained a classic look.

That is great news! It is about ******* time. Now get the script logo and colors back and put a ******* stadium on campus.

Where will it go, and who will pay for it. The city will never allow Pitt to take acres of taxable property in South Oakland off of the tax rolls for a stadium that will be used 7-8 times a year, nor should they. The part of the campus that Pitt already owns is built up.

Their own stadium isn't happening so forget about it. A good portion of the attendance at college football games is alumni and not students, for whom Heinz Field is fine. As the parent of two recent college students I can tell you that a surprising number of them don't give a crap about their college's sports teams. Pitt's attendance is mediocre because the team has been mediocre. Again, I never thought Pederson should have fired Stache. People were calling for Wannstache's head at the time, granted he was a slightly-above-mediocre coach and suffered from MT Disease when it came to losing games to bad teams, but then in the four years since he's been gone no one else has done as well either. Factor in the instability and that's why Pederson is gone (I think). Counting interims there have now been 8 HC's in 5 years.

Didn't Mark May promote himself for the job before they brought Pederson back?

He might not know anything about being an AD, but he would promote the football program.

I'm no Oakland real estate expert, but I am sure there is a way. A quick search found this - http://www.panther-hollow.org/

The move to Heinz field was idiotic.

This would be a beautiful place for a stadium for the University. College football was meant to be played on campus IMO. As a graduate in 1980 and enjoying the weekend treks up cardiac hill to watch football games as a student this would be great for the university and the football program. Playing at Heinz field removes the team from the university so to speak, the plans at panther-hollow.org would provide more than a stadium for Pitt football. Due to other sporting events competing for entertainment dollars in the area I would be careful of the size of the stadium. Maybe it could be designed to be expanded should the program take off and attendance rises. Even during the late 70s when the team competed for national titles and was a mainstay in the top 10 the stadium rarely was packed to capacity.

Panther Hollow was always a place I thought could be a larger part of the university, a stadium would be good for the area and the university.

Smart money is doing what they are doing. Nearly all parking at colleges is already in use. The stadium at Heinz Field has parking not in use for students. The stadium is already built and does not add to the costs to the college like a separate stadium on campus does. There is already an infrastructure in place for transportation and lodging that does not negatively impact the college. Duplication of facilities would be an extremely idiotic move, on the part of all parties concerned.

I don't know that anyone is arguing that it makes fiscal sense to build an on-campus stadium, just that not having one limits the success and potential of the football program.

If that's where I think it is, once you figure in the cost and payback period they would probably make more money from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and Schenley Park golf course that would be lost if you built a stadium.
Take away my Vintage Grand Prix and Imma be pissed.

Excellent points. It does not matter where you put the stadium if the team is not very good. We have season tickets and go only to tailgate with friends. Drive the whole way from Baltimore. I could not care less about the games.

Studies show that urban college football programs compete poorly for entertainment dollars when there are other pro teams in town. There are too many other things to do. Also, the parking MUST accommodate tailgating for college football.

Car club I belong to is holding their annual gathering in conjunction with the Vintage Grand Prix in July next year.
Still can't decide if I'm up for a two thousand mile ride, let alone the car.

Not that my vote counts for anything, but leave Schenley Park alone. All Pitt has to do is win and the crowds will return.
I can remember a night game against Penn St at 3 Rivers in the mid 70's. Everyone froze their *** off but the place was packed.

If there's a bunch of you from the same area then maybe go in together on a transporter. Or just fly in and spend the weekend. I go every year, it's great. Huge too. I had my son's Mustang in the show field the last two years, it was the featured marque in 2013. I got a window sticker.

Bingo.

Closest group of guys going with a transport are in Texas.
Realistically if I do go I'll fly in. I'm back at least once a year to check in on my Mom.
July would be as good a time as any.
