Patrick Peterson was last year's answer - he was Patrick Peterson in name only. A victim to Father Time.

Darius Slay was one of this year's answers - he is Darius Slay in name only. Another victim to Father Time.

Jalen Ramsey was this year's answer to the secondary - he is Jalen Ramsey in name only, now playing a lot of safety. Another victim of Father Time.

WHY, WHY, WHY are we signing every over-the-hill big name to fix a secondary that can't seem to cover a pothole???

Is Tomlin that arrogant that he can resurrect a career from the aging process???? Is Omar that ignorant to think he can build a secondary of 30+ year old DBs????

The people running this team do not appear to have the collective Football IQ of many of the regular posters on these forums. The don't appear to have a clue on building a roster or managing personnel.

I won't be shocked if next season they bring in Rod Woodson and Mel Blount.

I'm still pissed over the last 2 weeks, or 2 years, or 2 decades.

Tomlin is the modern day George Allen. And it worked for the Redskins. They were pretty successful.

At least he doesn't give away draft picks.

Joe Haden was the last vet CB signing that worked well for this team. I don’t remember if he was over 30 at the time, though.

Haden might have been slightly past his peak when the Steelers signed him, but he was still good for several years. I don't think he was much younger than Ramsey is now to be honest.

They have brought in younger guys too, DJ last year, Wallace, Witherspoon, Sullivan, Save for Haden and Nelson, nothing really has worked.. and we booted Nelson cause we werent happy with him either

They expected a dominant pass rush, which would've allowed Slay and Ramsey to perform at a higher level. I also think as the defense continues to implode, the "want" factor starts to decline as well.

how many SBs did Allen win?
Gibbs was the far superior coach in DC.

That was very evident in the last two games.
The efense was going thru the motions.

You half to go back to the 1970’s when Allen last coached for an example to defend Tomlin LOL

Carry on with your tired routine…

You build your team through the draft and develop those young players. That’s what we always had done until the last few years when Tomlin decided to build with has beens.
It doesn’t work! The Eagles tried this several years ago bringing in high priced washed-up vets. Looked good on paper but it blew up on the Birds.
Same thing happening here plus the aging vets like Heyward and Watt are added to this hodgepodge of nothingness.
Then you add in expensive contracts for underperforming guys like Highsmith and Queen and you have a recipe for disaster.
Chiefs has one of the lowest defensive payrolls but rank high in defensive categories.
Younger, faster, better schemes and better defensive coaching.
We’ve gotten away from what made us great. Building through the draft and developing the younger players.
Adding a quality F/A here and there to add to that young talent.
Tomlin and his poor coaching staff do not do a good job developing young talent.
Who was the last CB and Safety the defensive guru Tomlin has developed? I hear crickets!

Imagine you're a free agent and you are in your prime. Would you sign with the Steelers knowing there's no way in hell you're going to win a championship? I'd take less money and sign with a contender. So I think these old has beens and project cases that are not in high demand are all we really have to choose from.

Whoa. I'm not supporting it. I was just pointing out it worked for the Redskins back then in that they were a pretty successful team. It's obviously not working in Pittsburgh.

You are sensitive. In no way, shape or form was that support or defense for what Tomlin is doing. For the love, I was just pointing out George Allen did it and it was successful for them. I thought the "at least he isn't giving up draft picks"...the "at least" wording would indicate a lack of support for what he is doing.

Then why mention it?

You do this passive aggressive argument against people criticizing Tomlin all the time, then act suprised when people (3 people on the last 30 minutes) call you on your rediculous BS and call everyone sensitive about any defense of Tomlin, it’s lame as **** considering the performance of the past few weeks

At least he doesn’t give away draft picks? Good lord. All these free agents we sign is the direct failure of strategy of position and failure of pick choices in the draft.
That QB you drafted first round fails….no problem. Go get a FA.
That WR you drafted turned out to be a head case….no problem. Go get a FA.
Etc….Etc…Etc.

I would much prefer watching the young player drafted growing his skills with a team, getting reps.
Rather than a guy with past glories,30+ years old signing his last contract for millions to enrich his retirement fund..
To be honest I don’t give a **** about Rodgers or Slay or Ramsey. Because I know they’ll be gone in 1-2 years. As many of the FA’s are.
I’ve always believed you build a team…a dynasty through the draft.
Successful Drafts. Which a GM and HC should be held accountable for.

It's a message board?

I remembered George Allen and it reminded me a little of what is going on in Pittsburgh. But Allen gave up draft picks. The only positive I can see with what is happening in Pittsburgh is at least they aren't doing that.

No I don't. Uncinch your panties. There are a lot of very legitimate criticisms of Tomlin. You never see me argue against those. Then there are a few that are not legitimate. Those I respond to. And will continue to do so, regardless of your opinion.

I know! What are you guys reading? Signing these older guys is not working. Again, at least they aren't giving up picks. That's all I was trying to say.

And thank you for the last statement. I have argued for a while we may be getting mad at the wrong thing first when we get mad at Tomlin's schemes or strategy. The first issue is player evaluation. They are failing there and it should cost at least the HC his job. Not sure about Khan. I think Tomlin gets what he wants.

Sooo, he sucks…but you love to come here and argue about the minor ways you think he doesn’t suck….

Got it

If you sign veterans, even aging veterans, then you don’t have to develop young players. If Tomlin was tasked with developing young players, it would just be another example of his fraudulence. Can’t have that.

They expected a dominant pass rush, which would've allowed Slay and Ramsey to perform at a higher level. I also think as the defense continues to implode, the "want" factor starts to decline as well.

The rush can’t get home because the DBs are playing soft and the MOF is wide open. Opposing QBs don’t have to go through progressions, the first read is wide open.

Tomlin is terrified of getting beat deep.

I’ve said this several times. I believe a GM should always have the ultimate say over the players put on the roster from the draft or FA. As well as signing extensions and hiring and firing coaches. Of course a HC has input. But the final decision should always be on the GM. It’s absolute BS that they have let the HC get as much power as he’s gotten.
How can we actually grade Kahn? Rooney is just as much to blame in all this buffoonery.
