Taits of the best coaches of all time

First of all, who are the greatest coaches in the modern era of the NFL. Going old school, I'd say Chuck Noll and Don Shula. Bill Walsh. Joe Gibbs. Then Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson and Belichick.

Do you know what everyone of them have in common? They are all teachers. They are masters of how to play the game of football, including all positions.

Noll was often referred to as "the teacher."

I believe every great coach as a bottomless source of football knowledge. Clip of Jimmy Johnson, Big Tuna - all them - often shows them getting down and specifically teaching players techniques.

Now, have you EVER seen clips of Tomlin doing this? I never have. I am going to assume he knows somethings about player defensive back, being that he was one.

But, unlike the best coaches of all time, I don't think Tomlin gets neck deep into actually teaching football. All the clips I have seen has him chatting but I never see him teaching. I wonder if there is anything to that.

There have been a lot of players and coaches of all types that are alumni of the Steelers Football Club.
The organization is principally owned by the same family that paid the licensing and franchising fees in 1933.
Dan Rooney and certainly Art Rooney II grew up within the business of NFL football.
That all said if Mike Tomlin did not know how to execute the responsibilities as head coach I doubt he would have gotten hired. His talent assessment and game day planning skills are suspect IMHO but if his boss thought he was incapable of the job like everyone else, is expendable.

that setlles it. every coach in the league should be fired because their taints are not the same as the traits exhibited by HOF coaches.

Actually Supe you may have nailed it, I would not be surprised if every coach in the league does get fired sometime.

Hmmm...that's the first I have ever seen that written about Tomlin.

Maybe a reach, but I think Tomlin is a yes man, who relies way to much on his subordinates.

Salute the nation

There have been shots of Tomlin coaching up players on the sideline during a game....Troy tells a story about Tomlin during the America's Game video after they beat Arizona. Tomlin put together clips of practice where each time the defenders picked off a pass everyone stood around except the guy who caught the ball....his pint being that the defenders needed to get out in front of the guy with the ball and lead the way....the end of the half shows how that coaching worked out. While this may not be "teaching" it is certainly coaching...

I will not cry if he is replaced, but Tomlin is not the brain dead idiot many of you want to paint him out as....

Tomlin is an idiot, the players have tuned him out and his poor record of developo=ing and drafting players is why we have become a mediocre team under him.

I can't wait until someone posts a picture of Vince Lombardi's taint, that should be epic.

What do you mean the typo in the subject wasn't "taint?"
