First of all, who are the greatest coaches in the modern era of the NFL. Going old school, I'd say Chuck Noll and Don Shula. Bill Walsh. Joe Gibbs. Then Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson and Belichick.
Do you know what everyone of them have in common? They are all teachers. They are masters of how to play the game of football, including all positions.
Noll was often referred to as "the teacher."
I believe every great coach as a bottomless source of football knowledge. Clip of Jimmy Johnson, Big Tuna - all them - often shows them getting down and specifically teaching players techniques.
Now, have you EVER seen clips of Tomlin doing this? I never have. I am going to assume he knows somethings about player defensive back, being that he was one.
But, unlike the best coaches of all time, I don't think Tomlin gets neck deep into actually teaching football. All the clips I have seen has him chatting but I never see him teaching. I wonder if there is anything to that.
