SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk on Tuesday landed a deal with Chinese authorities to build a new auto plant in Shanghai, its first factory outside the United States, that would double the size of the electric car maker's global manufacturing.

I disagree about their cars being "wuss". One of my uncles has a P90D with the speed upgrade. It's ridiculously badass. While they're not the cheapest cars on the road, they are pretty high tech.

I'd also be inclined to believe this is how Tesla will circumvent the tariffs in place. Why build in one country, then ship to another and pay that tariff when you can just build your product in the country you intend to sell it? Isnt this what Nissan, Toyota and others did in the 80s?

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was one of the top 50 donors last quarter to a PAC aimed at maintaining Republican control of the House, new federal filings show.

I suspect that when your livelihood and multi-billion dollar business depends on government subsidies, you have to donate to both sides. Or possibly, I don't know for sure, if the Dems are True Believers in your electric bullshit then they're okay and you only need to buy votes from the other side.
