The Pittsburgh Steelers have enjoyed a successful draft so far, leading off with selecting Kenny Pickett at 20 overall, then George Pickens at 52 overall, then DeMarvin Leal at 84 overall. What is now a very young core with massive potential has Steeler Nation on alert to find out what the future will hold.
Now, as the focus turns to the later rounds, the Steelers should bolster the back end of the defense, specifically at corner. Joe Haden is no longer with the team, but the Steelers have attempted to fill his void by bringing back Akhello Witherspoon, Arthur Maulet and signing free agent Levi Wallace. So, who could mesh with this young group?

Some notable names that are still available in the draft are Coby Bryant, Zyon McCollum, Jalyn Armour-Davis, Josh Jobe, and Kalon Barnes.
Bryant was given a 6.20 draft grade, which according to NFL.com, is good enough to be an average starter in the NFL. He also holds the highest draft grade among all available corners left in the draft. All other corners hold a grade of 6.18 and below, per NFL.com.
Bryant’s confidence is at an all-time high following his senior year at the University of Cincinnati, earning the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back. Shadowed by Sauce Gardner on the opposite side of the ball, Bryant’s potential is flying under the radar and could use that as motivation in what could be a steal for the Steelers.
Speed is always an essential characteristic for guarding top-tier wide receivers in the NFL. Bryant, Armour-Davis and Barnes all finished inside the top five of the fastest 40-yard times among qualified corners.
If Bryant, or any of the above mentioned are selected, they’ll be led by Teryl Austin, defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach, and Grady Brown, defensive backs coach, all of whom have extensive backgrounds in developing defensive players in their coaching careers. Most notably, Austin led the defensive group to one of the best in the league in 2020.
The Steelers are notorious for not having the best history of drafting corners but selecting one of the above names in the fourth round or later will feel more conservative than aggressive.
Who do you have your eye on heading into the fourth round? Is it a corner back? Let us know in the comments, below!
