I have a bit different perspective on the game.Yes there is the possibility that the team could have won ugly by having the defense bail out the offense at the end of the game. And yes the offense could have won the game by getting a first down in their final series and run out the clock. Those things did not happen. It is not a smart plan to expect them to.

The Steelers scored no points in the 4th quarter. None. That is where the game was lost. If the steelers score 7 in the fourth quarter they win the game, period. If the scenarios listed above either play out they win by more. There needs to be a change in the teams approach to the game. They scored 24 points. That was not enough. They have no reason to celebrate. Immature penalties gave another team hope and chances to win.

Penalties gave the other team or removed from the Steelers more than 100 yards of field position and may have stalled drives and kept the other teams drives going. Performance like this will mean games get away that should have been won. Some of it will be to rookies and new guys in the line up making mistakes. Some of it will be due to failure to execute the play. Sometimes the other guys just come in and decide they are going to correct their mistakes. When a team is in the process of rebuilding there will be mistakes. Those are part of the learning process. Penalties that ultimately contribute to the success of the other team are not, any penalty for a celebration for example is stupid.

The offense had the ball in the 4th quarter but did not score any points. Failing to get points in every quarter is a big failure.

The Rooneys should be in a position to decide if the ship is going in the right direction this year or if we are repeating bad history. The big question still remains were they able to develop a coach that was not ready by giving him time to learn and a good team. At the end of this season we should know if they are going to keep trying or if they think MT has hit his peak as far as growth goes.

I felt the game was over when we ran on 3rd and 5 and put the game in our defense's hands. How many times have we seen that movie before? You simply cannot trust the Steelers defense with a lead in the closing minutes. You CAN'T.

Sadly it has been this way since our loss to GB in the Superbowl....almost 4 years ago.

We almost saw this scenario play out in the Super Bowl against Arizona. The offense went to sleep and the defense went soft. If Ben didn't it pull it out at the end, we might not be having this conversation about Tomlin at all right now. He'd be long gone.

The defense is saaawwwwwfffftttt ... The OC is saaaawwwwwffffftttt ... The HC is tone deaf and the DC seems to be going senile right before our eyes.

Missing a wide open wheaton and AB are factors. AB dropping a wide open pass on a flea flicker is a factor. Missing a 50yd FG was a factor. 10 penalties were a factor. It's a loss that team that isn't playing well should expect to have. We need to correct the errors. September is over. It's time for results in October.

You saw the writing on the wall when Ben spiked the ball on a 2nd and 6 just before the half costing us a critical down when there was a timeout left, then the 3rd down sack to take us out of FG range for our kicker. We should've been up 10-14 points at half time.
