Besides the OL, I think a big issue are the WRs lack of getting open. We don't have that guy that can always get open when needed like we did with AB.
Diontae is definitely the best route runner but his foot work is just not top level. He slips a ton, he has trouble getting clean off the line sometimes, and mental lapses.
Juju is good working in zone but has trouble separating in man coverage. Claypool is a one trick pony at this point. Him and Washington are identical in route running abilities.
Freirmuth has the best hands and probably is the best option for over the middle passes.

Bottom line, this WR group is a bit overrated. DJ is the only WR that has the quick twitchy ability to get shake man coverage and get open for those 12-15 yard routes.

Steelers are never getting another A.B., or Bell, or prime Big Ben. Look at the brightside, the Rooneys saved alot of money?

Why not? Those are players we drafted. We can draft high caliber players in the future.

I just heard Stan Saverin talking to Madden about this just a short time ago. They must be coming to the board for points to talk about

i say: teach McCloud the post and slant route tree.

You don't necessarily have to be big - look at Tonio did.

ALWAYS the positive out look,

Absolutely and we have TJ WATT (best defensive player in the NFL, Cam Heyward right up there just to name a few.

I can't remeber even one post of his that has been positive other than he threatened to leave one time.

Like most of you, I watch an NFL game if one is on. I see a lot of open receivers. Our guys never look open like those on other teams; they're seperated while our wrs are blanketed.

Juju can absolutely get open against man, the issue is THIS offense only wants to send him on 4 yard routes from the slot.

One reason AB was able to do the things he was, they moved him around, he lined up anywhere. As much as they are trying to force DJ to be THE GUY, our best WR is still Juju. He needs more involvement in the offense.

This offense was supposed to use movement to create mismatches, so far it's just a bunch of gimmick shifting that accomplishes nothing.

DJ may run the best routes, unfortunately they are not always the right ones. I’m sorry, but as a PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCED WR, it is unacceptable to be running the wrong routes. Come on man, learn the play book.

Juju had 1400 receiving yards in his second season, and now they use him like Ryan Switzer.

Maybe Johnson's injury will be an opportunity to involve Juju more.

I keeeeeeep saying we need a true burner to scare teams off the coverage they are using… claypool is a great mismatch guy, but he is 4.4 and not quick… id take a smaller 4.2 type with less size and hands…

hell trade Washington for that guy… wash is great but redundant here

Is all the Washington love fans send his way just like backup QB love? I never got why people think he’s so great? Never been more than an average 3 or 4 who seems to make his best plays in practice.

maybe I’m missing something

He is basically a physical deep threat or fight for the ball position guy… claypool is that but faster and juju is that but better and has deceptive game speed…

Last year Washington was about 1 or 2 points behind JuJu in terms of catches per target percentage. In order to post that catch percentage, he made plays over the middle, down the side and off slants and screens. Basically, he's the 2nd most reliable receiver on the team by the numbers.

Claypool is admittedly much more sexy, but also about 1/2 as reliable. Last year Diontae wasn't even in the discussion. He was so UNRELIABLE it was sheer blind Tomlinity that kept Johnson on the field at all. Washington's biggest problem is that he plays the same position as Claypool and that makes it harder for him to get on the field due to Chase's upside.

I agree that Washington is NOT one of the top two WRs on the team, but it could easily be argued he should be considered for the #3 spot based on his consistency alone.
