Pennsylvania Democrats Angry They Can Now be Sued for Passing Illegal Gun Laws

Pennsylvania Democrats are outraged after a bill was passed that allows gun rights groups like the NRA to sue localities for passing gun control measures that violate state law. “If you are a resident of Forest County and you don’t like the Norristown gun law, you could hire Johnnie Cochran and bill a township $100,000 an hour or whatever he charges to win the case,” Sen. Daylin Leach (D., Montgomery) said.

Former Democrat Governor and Mayor of Philadelphia Ed Rendell called the bill “outrageous.”

Pennsylvania state law explicitly states that localities may not create their own gun laws. Localities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have passed gun restrictions despite that language. That’s why backers of the new bill say it is necessary. “

'Bout time y'all, now before I make my next pilgrimage can you do something about buyin' beer in grocery stores and oh ya, the roads could use some attention too. LOL

Interesting. The township I used to live (Peters) has a law that you can not discharge a weapon anywhere within township boundaries.

Many of the more urban townships have no discharge ordinances in Pa. Those might be defensible as somewhat justifiable.....but I think this bill addresses the more draconian no possession / no carry / registration type stuff (which are probably unconstitutional anyhow so not sure why this legislation is even necessary).

Shows how bright he is. Johnnie Cochran passed away several years ago.

They should be jailed and sued. ..hmm maybe tar, feathers and a rail to run your *** out on.

I am all for politicians being held personally liable for violations of existing law when making laws. There ought to be weekly impeachings in this country. they take far too many liberties with everyones rights

How cool would it be to be the guy selling all the traffic cones to PennDOT?

Heck, I'd settle for the contract that keeps the little blinker lights goin' on the saw horse lookin' thingies.

Actually I found that article while checking the validity of my own private little firing range. Florida evidently went thru the same scenario back in 2011.

Many municipalities in Florida used to have local laws banning the firing of guns in residential areas. While the preemptive state law has been in place for almost three decades, many local governments ignored it and passed their own gun ordinances.

But in 2011, backed by the National Rifle Association, the Republican-led state Legislature put more teeth into the state law, creating penalties for local lawmakers who violate it. Gov. Rick Scott signed the law that now makes anyone who creates or upholds local gun ordinances subject to fines of up to $5,000. They also can be removed from office and forced to pay their own legal bills if sued over local gun ordinances

That would suck.

I guess I'm spoiled. I carry my gun with me every day at work. Have plenty of target practice in the mornings shooting at Armadillos, Coyote's, wild boar, cotton mouth's. My gun hating, liberal sister is worried I'll lose my job doing this and I told her I doubt it since my boss plays golf here every day and he packs his pistol in his golf bag and takes the occasional shot at these same varmints when possible.

Good point. However, lawyers can bill for work even after death.

I worked for a decent sized firm some years back, and one of the named partners passed away at age 91. His billing code was used by a secretary for things like sending out form discovery demands, so for quite a few years after his death, his name was still appearing on the monthly billing records.
