Raiders' Menelik Watson donates entire game check to 4-year-old

Four-year-old Ava Urrera suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome — which means is simple terms — she has just half of a working heart. Doctors have not been as helpful as the could be, and the bills are piling up for her family.

During the week, Ava and her family got a chance to attend the Raiders' facilities as part of NFL on Fox insider Jay Glazer's Touchdown Dreams program. The family met with many of the players, including offensive lineman Menelik Watson, who provided a gift nobody could have expected.

Watson donated his game check for the week to the family.

According to NFLPA records, via Pro Football Talk, Watson's base salary this season is $622,948, meaning his weekly gross salary is $36,944. With federal and state taxes taking roughly half of that away, the net check is somewhere in the range of $18,000.

There weren't cameras rolling, and Watson wasn't in it for the publicity. He did it out of the goodness of his heart. It's a tremendous gesture any time of the year, but with the holiday season taking a toll on the wallets of many families, Watson's actions are particularly gracious.

Game ball of the week goes to Watson. Seriously, that type of selflessness is a beautiful thing, and its inspiring to know there are still people like this in the world. He has a very nice salary, but its not like he's making $10 mil a yr. Godbless Menelik Watson, and props to the Raiders for having Ava and her family as guests.

Good for him.

Truthfully, players do **** like this all the time. It's just that bad behavior makes for better press.

Menelik sounds like the name of a cartoon super villain.

Nice job and it's nice to hear of someone doing something nice with the money instead of spending it on illegal drugs and hookers. This guy could be a role model for the *** hats of the league. The first one in the line for *** hat that could have learned from this if it had happened in the pastTO
