Good article, but unfounded. They state several stats and how bvad Kenny was to start the season but also state how he finished the season.

Good read that brings back some to reality.

ONE of the biggest factors is also mentioned, OC as being the "Matt O'Canada" opening up the offense or not. I think that is politely saying is he smart enough or if there is anything there to actually "open" up.

This offensive scheme sucks and Kenny Pickett has his hands full (albeit small hands full) in being put in good situations vs executing the dumbass play calling.

I'm not all that concerned with KP, if he doesn't improve it won't be for lack of effort.

Can't say the same about Canaduh, if they continue to struggle putting points up, I'd boot him before the bye week.

I agree on booting him, it’s the contingency plan that they may NOT have formulated until after the fact, to replace him.

I’ve always felt “PRO-action” was way better than “re-action” and I don’t see a plan in effect. How sad is it that there probably isn’t anyone better than O’Canada to call the plays, that is currently on the coaching staff.

I don’t think Sullivan has much “play calling” NFL experience. He is exposed to O’Canada’s scheme but would he be any better………. Hard to think so.

THIS is not an endorsement for O’Canada, but we probably won’t gain anything by firing him. I’m thinking we are stuck with his good or bad, the full season.

Canada has already had one year too many. I could be wrong of course, but I hardly see him changing at this point. The real question is whether KP8 and the offense can succeed notwithstanding Canada. If they do, it could ironically save Canada's job which clearly should be terminated post-haste. Steelers sure love to give a long rope to their OCs.

Could it be more like Coach Tomlin and his college friends………

Butler
Fitchner
Smith
all O’l college pals

O’Canada
Got Tomlins kid into college (scholarship I think)

Coach Cowher did the right thing with Sherman.

It would make sense to dump Canaduh if someone good came along.

Meh I would not worry much about Picketts offensive production.

He basically played 11.5 games last year. The final six he threw 5 tds. For a rookie, thats good..

The bigger things to focus on are
1. He should show physical and mental improvement in his second season especially with an offseason to learn and improve on his weaknesses and a full preseason as a starter.

2. The Staff will trust him more. The first half of his starts last year and even most of his back half, they really sheltered him… everything was comebacks or sideline shots. He had no audibles and they rarely pushed the ball downfield.
In the situations he had to play aggressive, he did well, so they wont be quite as conservative this season …

3. Pickett had horrible game luck last year.
Every stat cruncher should know that results don’t always reflect effort, ability, and correct execution. Some seasons a player may have exceptional stats despite mediocre or bad play while others play well but aren’t able to convert their play into quantifiable numbers… but these are usually outlier seasons and water find’s it’s level ( which is why teams that give big contracts to guys right after an outlier season are often very disappointed..)
Pickett last year had a larger number of picks that probably weren’t his fault than passes that should have been picked but weren’t and worse, his TD luck was as bad as it could be…almost every single skill guy dropped potential Tds, even Muth and Pickens, who dropped a perfect deep pass to him…
And DJ not having a Td despite his targets is such an outlier that I would expect a career high from him this year just because everything that went wrong for him couldn’t possibly happen again…

The bottom line is that there really were virtually no Tds that were lucky because of a defender falling down or misplaying a ball and the Receivers rarely created anything on their own. I don’t think that will happen two years in a row.

Id guess Pickett ends up with around 22 tds this year. I don’t see a wide open enough offense to really top 25.I don’t see a stagnant player that hovers under 1 td per game…

Tomlin needs to remove the shackles from the offense. Canada can't call plays that aren't approved by the Reverend.

It's hard to say any team with a QB in his first year or two is in a bad situation. After two years as the primary starter you can start to project things in year 3. The only teams with bad QB situations are those either A. locked into an average veteran with a big contract, B. a young QB who has shown he isn't the answer, or C. a team with a stopgap QB.

So here is how I see it. And if you read what I write I'm not exactly the big optimist. The big variable is health. But if they are healthy I expect them to run the ball very efficiently and KP to be steady. I think they score between 17 and 24 on average. I think their front 7 is gonna be lights out on defense and they are gonna give up between 10 and 17. And they are gonna win a hell of a lot of games. If they split with Bengals they challenge for division.

Maybe against offenses outside of the top 5. Even then there is a lot of new pieces on defense. I fully expect teams to test the new secondary and I presume early bumps in the road. I think that 10 -17 outlook might be more aligned with the second half of the season provided relatively good health.

Yeah and this isn't going to happen. Not the Steelers way. Also it has been said Tomlin has his fingers in the cookie jar. I would think they would figure it out between the two of them and for better or worse ride out the season.

You can look at Canada just like the wild fires... well in Canada. Causing fire and smoke and going nowhere soon.

I'm expecting heavy pressure with 4 or maybe 5. That leaves a lot in coverage. Plus they got a starter at Corner an all pr at safety. A couple experienced at SS a very experienced corner for slot. There will be growing pains but secondary isn't like oline.

Fully agree slash, the first part of the season is going to test even us fanatics as to where this team is headed.

We are going to have either a 1-4 start or just as easily a 4-1 start,……..

I’m going to think / say that the offense had best have a 24+ ppg. Just like the LS10, I expect this offense to GO, somewhere!!
