I will post the sites recap and an extra one afterwards gives everyone two good reads.

Steelers depot has a good read as well. Unable to post the link.

Oops didn't see Coolie posted it below.

Batting below .500 eshhhh

Nice article Ben, thank you.

DJ needs to get this contract thing done and put away. If his head is to big, then sit him even if the entire season.

I have said it, and I'll say it again - Rudolph is not what the internet GMs make him out to be. Don't be surprised when hear EARNS his way onto this roster.
Yeah but will he earn a start? Because for the Internet GMs to be wrong he would have to do exactly that no less. As that is the knock on him. Not that he doesn't deserve to be on a roster but that he is starting capable, nothing more than a career backup.

You may be correct here. You may be wrong. I'm leaning towards you being wrong, but I have been wrong a lot in my few years on this rock.

Eh I see it as nothing more than Watt did. He is still showing up. I just don't know if the Steelers are interested in throwing him a big contract. He isn't on that level as TJ Watt...

In the meantime, they (the Steelers) get the time to assess whether or not they are comfortable moving forward with Claypool, Miller, Pickens, Austin, et. al, without Johnson

Personally I hope he is back under a new contract. I understand the nature of the position. But I do like the guy overall even though some parts of his game is annoying to me. Like backtracking and losing yardage. But the guy has improved parts of his game and can get open. If they can retain him I'd be up for it.

I feel the same. But, remember how the offense/WRs sputtered after AB was no longer there? I think DJ having his "hold in" gives the QBs a chance to get familiar with other guys in the role that has been traditionally his since he got here. It also means the QBs learn which WRs, not named Johnson, they can rely upon the most. That's a good thing because I think at times Ben relied a little too much on DJ - Maybe he reminded Ben of an "AB Lite".

I'm not sure there are many out there who doesn't think Rudolph is a QB deserving of a roster spot but rather he doesn't have a long-term future with the team and try to pick up an asset for him. He's shown nothing more than being a good backup and spot starter at best. He's not a QB who is going to lead a team to anything more than, at best, a .500 record.

Johnson is a perfect receiver when you have Claypool and if Pickens develops as many think he can. His route running would eat defenses alive with big fast receivers along with a talented tight end. I want him back as well, but I also don't think he is a wise investment on a top contract.

I hope the camp competition is spirited, with all 3 getting a chance at the gold ring.

At this point, the Steelers are trying to make lemonade, and we'll have to wait and see if I'm wrong about that.

No matter if Rudolph is what many seem to think is not a starter, the other two QB's are no less in the same category. This year will come down to players making plays, getting key first downs helping no matter which QB starting, stay on the field.

Time Steelers stepped up and sign DJ. He made the plays to many times with how inconsistent this receiving crew was last year .

He will fall in between Tyler Locket and Micheal Thomas is my guess. 17.5 - 20 mil 4 years / 30million guaranteed.

A-N-D

NO, that seems to high but I'm not a craptologist for team spending but also see his market being that right now. If he has near the year I expect....... he will make this look cheap.

All the guaranteed money has to immediately be put in an escrow account which makes it hard on the team if you have a bunch of huge guaranteed player deals, see Watt, etc. This also plays into deciding to whether or not sign a good but not great player like DJ

DJ seems like a bit AB and a bit of ....maybe Emmanuel Sanders.....but we won't really know until this season plays out because of the need for another formidable WR threat (Claypool/Pickens?), the new QB and a revamped OL. It is going to be tough evaluating meaningfull value before mid October.....

Yes. By next season, only two of three will be in camp, with Pickett one of those two.
