Trey Lance Traded for a 4th

I've seen allot of 49er games while living in the bay area. Lance has not looked good, ever. He's had some injuries that contributed to a lack of progress but in year three he looked like his first summer, bad. Good guy and wish him the best in Dallas, the 49ers are so luky they found Purdy or the criticism over the Lance project would have been deafening.

They better really hope that Purdy doesn’t regress… rookie qbs that look that good early often don’t continue playing at that high level…

Remember in 2017 they passed on Patrick Mahomes…
 
You're right on both points. He definitely could regress but I watched Purdy tonight and he looked good. His throws were on point or thrown away due to coverage. The thing about him is he's a good fit for their offence, he's accurate on slants which they love to run. His seams to tight ends are on point as well. The 49er running game keeps linebackers close and it opens up the the quick pass. Purdy definitely benifits from the surrounding cast, Garoppolo certainly did.

Purdy is not an Aaron Rodgers type but he fits their offense well and that leads back to the original post, why did they go for a QB like Lance who was more like Jackson with less speed and not a precision passer.
 
Has anyone lost draft status like this before? multiple 1sts a few years ago to a 4th? RG3 matbe?

Minnesota for Walker was bad, there are others but this one obscures most recently. I'm sure their front office is lamenting who they might have picked in round one since 2020.
 
Ryan Leaf comes to mind
 
When they drafted Lance, they had Jimmy G and figured they'd draft the QB of the future to develop for a year. Then Lance got injured and the 49ers became SB contenders with Purdy. Purdy is still learning and needs reps. They just don't have the time for a developmental QB now.

Also, Purdy is still learning and may have some rough spots. Fans would be yelling for Lance. Not a good situation.

Dobbs was what? Not getting what was funny. Inside the complex mind if cooch. A voyage no man or woman should take on without knowing there is significant risk of still not understanding WTF you are getting at.
 
I had Trey Lance as a second round pick on my big board. He has the talent just I knew he would need 3 years to get the speed of the NFL down. North Dakota State to the NFL is a big jump and the fact he had the covid year in there as well just spelled disaster if someone over drafted him. Sitting behind Dak might be the best thing for him. He can sit the next two years and just develop. No pressure. Learn in practice and from the coaches. He'll only be 25 when he is a free agent so the exact age as Kenny Pickett is now. So he can pick a good situation and start his career fresh.
 
I agree with Jitter that I thought he was way overdrafted.
Man giving up 3 first rounders and it was't even the top pick of the draft

oh well not our problem
Purdy will be in a week from now ........... come on DEF ...... lets add a little more frustration to Niners fans

Purdy is going to make plays. It is going to be a hard matchup with their offensive fire power. Watt and company will need to get steady pressure to keep the Steelers in the game...

Dallas gave the 49ers a 4th round pick, but even more valuable according to the Niners, they also got $50.

Apparently $50 is a big deal to some teams and some people. I know, I know, it's just 50 ******* dollars but from my experience, some people covet $50.

Yes,just was watching the 49”s game,Purdy looked sharp. Considering after his surgery I thought there was no way he would be starting against us. Gotta give him credit. Pressure is definitely needed. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are very good. Should be a great test for our D.
 
So the 49rs just lost their backup Te they drafted in the third to injury… if we didn’t play them week 1 we probably could get a good return on Gentry.. But I wouldn’t deal him right before we play them for sure

Worried about being "Belichicked"? You know, where a certain cheating coach picks up the 4th string QB that was cut from the team he is facing next week and gets all the inside information from the QB room?

What have we learned here boys? I’d say the experts aren’t always so expert! Niners gave a kings ransom to draft Lance number three overall and they had their 2022 season saved by a a QB drafted as Mr. Irrelevant in the 22 draft. Mr. Irrelevant gets them to the NFC Championship Game and is the starter now in SF. Go figure!

RG3 was a bit different. He at least showed some promise until he was injured. Lance has looked terrible. I would almost venture to say he may not have been worth of a UDFA status much less a 3rd overall pick. Definitely one of the worst draft screw ups of all times considering what they gave up for him.
 
They better pray Purdy is that guy. He had a nice run at the end of the season but if he can't replicate or stay healthy they just ****** themselves out of a potential future starter. I know Lance was drafted more on potential that actual reality. Darnold may be the new reality for them if Purdy stumbles.
