"First time captain, Troy Polamalu, didn't shy away from pointing a finger after the Steelers 26-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Where he pointed the finger as to where the team went wrong might have been the most surprising aspect of his comments.

In the chaos following the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, almost every player was forced to answer question after question about what went wrong and whether the sky was truly falling. The usually reserved Troy Polamalu answered questions honestly, and painted a picture as to what might truly be wrong with the Steelers' porous defense.

Listen to Troy Polamalu's answers in the BTSC feature 'Inside the Steelers Locker Room' following the loss, and you'll hear a captain truly disappointed in the defensive performance of the unit he leads, but also him pointing to one surprisingly telling aspect of how the team needs to improve.

Q: The penalties seem to be a recurring issue in the first two games. Anything you can do to fix those?

A: "Just work on playing cleaner. Practicing better."

Q: There was a lot of talk last week about lack of communication. Was that an issue this week or just simple execution?

A: "Our communication was on point, it's just about execution for sure."

Q: What can be done about that?

A: "Practice better."

There is a recurring theme within these comments, and as Allen Iverson would say "we talkin' about practice."

Polamalu's comments in regards to the Steelers needing to practice better paints a bad picture for the players and coaches within this organization.

Anyone that has ever played a sport at some point in their lives knows that preparation, or practice, plays a critical role in the outcome of the team's performances. Polamalu repeatedly stating the team's practice habits are an issue speaks of a team that needs to focus more and put in the time off the field to see the changes needed on it.

The coaching staff would be wise to listen to the team captain's message. They have a long week of preparation ahead before traveling to Charlotte, NC to face the Carolina Panthers. A game where the Steelers could get this terrible taste out of their mouths by winning a big game on the road in prime time.

These comments speak to the entire team, coaches included, and if the communication issues after week one were solved by week two, then the practice issues should be fixed by week three and hopefully the team's play on the field will improve in the process.

The extended break this team received after the Thursday night game could be the perfect remedy for this Steelers team and coaching staff as they prepare for the Panthers next week."

So who do we blame for poor practices...the whole coaching staff? lazy players? hard to say, but it doesnt sound good

Bullshit Tomlin is a great coach who's won the Super Bowl. How dare anyone question his leadership

Tomlin doesn't want to waste anything in practice now that he may need later when it's time to unleash hell. Obviously.

Tomlin supporters are red in the face with outrage.

*slams hand on table* How DARE troy speak poorly of practice, SURELY the steelers run perfect practices! After all, we DID win a superbowl under Tomlin's stewardship, right? R..right???

Troy is clearly a racist who hates black head coaches

I don't know why anyone would create this analogy. The first sign of insanity is perceiving what is inside another's mind.

I'm always led by facts. Now Troy is not happy and does see that his team needs to practice more. It is a very young defense, and from viewing the games, it still doesn't grasp the concepts fully as of yet. Practice and experience will make this defense better.

What is Troy doing to help his team mates? I know in Baltimore, Ray Lewis was a film nut. He would invite players to his viewing room in his home to improve their game recognition. Ed Reed pointed to how it made him a better player. Does Troy do this type of thing as well? I haven't heard of it. Nor do I blame him for it. It doesn't seem to be his personality to do it. So hanging it on the team mates and coaches seems a little shortsighted for someone who is now a leader. He should be asking himself, what can I do to help this team get better. Complaining is never the answer.

I also noticed Troy missing tackles BADLY in that game. He missed his first 3 tackles before actually brining someone down on his 4th. It wasn't coaching, or preparedness that hampered him there. It was his inability to wrap his arms around the ball carrier (which he's done his whole career). If he works on that in practice, he will be a far better safety at his age, because he is still getting to the play.

What did he say that was so bad? I think people are reading way too much into him saying this:

A: "Just work on playing cleaner. Practicing better."

A: "Our communication was on point, it's just about execution for sure."

A: "Practice better."

Seems like he wants the team to practice better. WTF is wrong with that. He didn't call anyone out. Maybe he was saying that the guys are young and just need more practice?

Ding Ding ... Karma to you

yeah Vader thought the same thing when I read the article in comparison to Troy's comments. Just another media writer stretching for a story.

I am with you Vader. Typically when you have a poor performance, your goal is to practice better to get things fixed.

No more excuses just git r done

While I agree with you... This is pot calling out the kettle... as he skipped all OTA's with the team..

He didn't say anything negative. He isn't calling anyone out. He is just saying that the team is young and needs more practice time. He could be calling out the NFL for not letting the team practice as much in pads. I don't know. I just think people are reading an awful lot into what he actually said.

A whole lot about nothing. They obviously need more practice. ALL of them.

Bingo. His coment was we need to not they need to. Also key comment was better not more. When I read what was posted it sounds like an all inclusive statement not a this guy and that guy statement.

Practice. We talking 'bout practice.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Vader again.

(Side rant: "Why" must I always "spread some Reputation around before giving it to __________ again"? What if I don't like what anyone else has said enough to give them reputation? Just saying).

Troy is done and they should in the nickel play Troy asa LB and Will Allen or Sharko at SS.

Watching Chris Cullivar shut the Bears down, MT should be watching b/c he does not know how to evaluate CB's at all.

And I'm guessing the Steelers still haven't practiced since the game. They should have taken Friday off and then practiced yesterday and today and no one gets a rest like they did last week.

I believe the CBA says they can't practice til Monday following a Thurs night game. I could be wrong, but I think I either read or heard that somewhere.

that may be true, and I don't care enough to look it up, but one would also think these ******* COULD grab their playbooks and go to a ******* Starbuck's to go over the ******* plays or some ****.
it's not like the Mensa candidates we have on roster now couldn't use that extra time studying the ******* playbook from what I saw Thursday night.
