Waiver issued so construction of border wall can begin

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a waiver to waive certain laws, regulations and other legal requirements to ensure the expeditious construction of barriers in the vicinity of the international border near Calexico, California. The waiver was published in the Federal Register today.

This waiver is pursuant to authority granted to the Secretary of Homeland Security by Congress and covers a variety of environmental, natural resource, and land management laws.

The Department has exercised the waiver authority in Section 102 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA), as amended, on five previous occasions from 2005 to 2008, as well as exercising this waiver authority earlier this year for a project in the San Diego area, which was announced in August.

This current waiver covers certain border infrastructure projects in the United States Border Patrol's El Centro Sector, a critical sector for border security. In fiscal year 2016 alone, the United States Border Patrol apprehended more than 19,400 undocumented immigrants and seized approximately 2,899 pounds of marijuana and approximately 126 pounds of cocaine in the El Centro Sector.

House Agrees To $1.6 Billion For Border Wall

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday that will provide $1.2 trillion to fund the government past Sept. 30, and will allocate $1.6 billion towards President Donald Trump’s border wall.

The legislation gives $658.1 billion to the Department of Defense, $44.3 billion for the Department of Homeland Security and allocates the rest of the money towards other federal agencies. The bill lops all 12 annual spending bills into two one piece of legislation

I don't think anyone on the Dem. side should be upset. This is just like humoring a retarded child till he can be placed in a "facility". Anything you can do to distract and occupy Trump until he's removed from office or resigns is fine with me.

Pakman's assessment here is spot on other than i would add that the meeting with the Dems. also may be an attempt to make as many friends as he can because he knows judgement day is coming. Now we know about the explosion of anger Trump had at meeting with Sessions where he called him an "idiot" among other things for recusing himself.

That anger came about because he knew without his guy he couldn't make the investigation go away. And we know Mueller has more than enough evidence at this point, so I can see Trump trying to latch onto whatever and whoever he can.
