Sorry, but it shouldn't be the Patriots responsibility to baby sit him 24/7. Being a grown up means we are responsible for ourselves. I don't see "warning signs" of wanting to go back "home" instead of going to dinner with teammates; and really just because Lawrence Phillips shared a similiarity shouldn't mean he's anything like Phillips.
Actually it sounds like the Patriots acted properly, giving him a chance and quite frankly they were fooled and lied to.
Sounds like the only thing they were guilty of in this instance was poor management of one of their investments. That is really what a player is. Some of them Like Troy Polomolu for example have no risk others like the aforementioned Phillips are high risk. I do not think the cheatriots are responsible for his behavior on his own time. The only way I would consider something actionable against them would be if they aided him in the commission of a crime or in the concealment of the crime after the fact, and the later would be failing to report a felony after they had knowledge of it. To make that clear if the had knowledge of one of the murders he was supposed to be involved in and failed to report it.
