The Pittsburgh Steelers took a huge blow in week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. They lost their run stuffing stud nose tackle, Tyson Alualu.

The loss of Alualu, and Stephon Tuitt doomed the Steelers defensive front. The Steelers couldn’t stop the run. At one point giving up over 1000 yards on the ground in a 5 game span.

They spent all season trying to find a replacement. The closest they was when they signed Montravius Adams off the New Orleans Saints practice squad.

The fact that Alualu is planning on returning is a huge boost to the Steelers front. The ability for Adams, and Alualu to spell each other should give the defensive unit a big boost against the run.

Hoping Tyson comes back strong.....the middle is so important to the Steeler defensive scheme. Looking forward to his return.

He's in his mid-30s and struggling with injuries.

There's no way they can count on him or Tuitt and must approach the off season accordingly.

If they can come back at just 80% of what they were, the Steelers would be significantly better in 2022, but it just seems unlikely for various reasons, with Alualu's age and Tuitt's mental state.

I think there are some potential building blocks in place with Loudermilk and Adams showing the ability, but not yet the consistency. Adams might not get much better, but Loudermilk definitely.

Regardless, the Steelers need to add a high ceiling talent to the DL with one of their first two picks.

Davis is interesting, but might end up going pretty high.

I'm definitely with Punx on Loudermilk. That kid has some talent and want to. Adams is a serviceable starter and s good backup. We need another young beast in there.

ALSO NOTE that Tyson says he has been in the stands / side line of games............................. Stephone---------- crickets. That draws me to be even more less likely the return of Tuitt hopeful.

Like you said it has been a long time and these guys are not young players. Tuitt needs to be decided before FA begins so the coaching staff can get a plan of attack, PRO-active.

Tuitt has already missed about half his games since he's been here. I'd say it's time to move on.
I still gotta think his knee wasn't right or he'd have been back. I get that his brother was killed but my dad died in October and I was still working half days that week except for the day of his funeral because I had **** to do.

I get it Ron, many here have had tragedies as well and kept moving on with life. If the knee was wrong, there surely has been enough time and the fact NO news out on the specifics of if the knee. It probably was to start this ordeal and used to a degree of excuse but to hear nothing AND not even an effort to be with the team draws me to conclude there is more wrong than just the knee.

I've said he needs to be decided before FA so we can get a plan in action, PRO-action and not wait till after the fact and just hope he comes back, then we'd be RE-action.

PS RON, sorry for your loss and blessings your way

He can back up Jordan Davis when the Steelers pick him in Round 1. That was my dream anyway. The Steelers need a hulk on the DL that will anchor the next "Steel Curtain".
This would be a beautiful thing. Alualu was mostly a rotational guy for us until Tuitt went out anyway. Davis couldn't stay on the field for more than a few downs in a row in college so I wouldn't expect that to change in his 1st year as a pro. He and Alualu would be a nice combination to plug the middle on all 3 downs assuming Tomlin will keep 3 DL on the field as he should.

I think Tuitt still has a year on his contract so if they cut him it would be a big cap hit. I'd have a sit-down with him and find out if he seriously wants to play or not and if not then suggest he gets on with his life's work.

They can save about $9 million by cutting Tuitt.

OR possibly working a trade. THEY do need to determine their plan sooner than later. Have the sit down and dictate to him what your plan of action is and see how cooperative he is.

Sigh you're probably right, DL needs to be addressed early in the draft considering the factors you say.

So many holes on this team... QB, OL, DL, ILB, CB, WR...will take at least 2 drafts to fill them and give us a chance. Hopefully they can find a wsy spend some cap space on young free agents too.
