In his 15 year run with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Head Coach Mike Tomlin has never posted a losing record, until 2022… says Vegas.
Prominent sports books such as Caesar’s, DraftKings and FanDuel, all have the Steelers 2022 win total over/under 7.5 (+105/-125 according to Caesar’s Sportsbook), so why the disrespect to a franchise that hasn’t had a losing record since 2003?
Well, let’s look at some factors:
With all of the transition and change the Steelers are going through, paired with the advancements other teams in the North have made, surely you’ll win if you bet the under and the Steelers couldn’t win more than seven games this season, right?
Wrong.
Vegas forgot something when their “experts” were making the odds. The standard is the standard.
That couldn’t be more apparent than last season, when a Steelers team that had “no business being there” made the postseason. It doesn’t matter what the roster looks like, Coach T will have this team ready to go come September.
It’s easy to understand why oddsmakers have the team win total set at o/u 7.5 in a division where the Steelers will see Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson twice a year, however, as we’ve seen time and time again, games are not won in March or April.
In addition to their regularly scheduled AFC North opponents, the Steelers will be taking on teams from the AFC East and NFC South in the 2022 regular season.
I’m no oddsmaker, and you can call me biased, but I can’t see a reason the Steelers can’t win 10+ games this season, because while Vegas and other pundits are talking about what the Steelers have lost, maybe we should take a look at what they’ve gained:
We still haven’t even gotten through the NFL Draft yet. I understand that this season in Pittsburgh poses more questions than the team has had in a long time, but as I said earlier… The standard is the standard, and I expect Coach Tomlin to hold the Steelers to that as much in 2022, as he did in 2007.
Needless to say, I’ll be taking the over.

Well, let’s look at some factors:
- The departure of future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
- The impending retirement of Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert.
- Will Mitch Trubisky be able to perform in Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada‘s system?
- The other AFC North teams have made major improvements, most notable being the Cleveland Browns signing Deshaun Watson, and the Cincinnati Bengals building up their offensive line with star OT La’el Collins.

- A young, mobile quarterback in Trubisky that spent last year learning from Josh Allen, and oh yeah, took the Chicago Bears to the postseason twice (see how they’ve done without him).
- Improvements to the offensive line and the defense in one of the most active free agencies we’ve seen from the Steelers in years.
- The addition of Brian Flores to the defensive coaching staff.
- Mike Tomlin is STILL the Head Coach
