Not only is a terrible f’n name, and being pressured into having it changed is something I fundamentally disagree with - totally separate issue - but Football Team actually grew on me and quite frankly, it has a very old school (like 1920s NFL) feel to it. Just classic.

Should have just left it as the “Football Team”.

I agree, I liked it too. But it isn't that marketable and as we all know, it's all about the $$$$
 
Dumb name.

The Navy has weird titles for their officers.

Why not the Admirals?

Better yet The Washington Rear Admirals Upper Half!

  • Ensign (ENS, O1) ...
  • Lieutenant, Junior Grade (LTJG, O2) ...
  • Lieutenant (LT, O3) ...
  • Lieutenant Commander (LCDR, O4) ...
  • Commander (CDR, O5) ...
  • Captain (CAPT, O6) ...
  • Rear Admiral Lower Half (RDML,O7) ...
  • Rear Admiral Upper Half (RADM, O8)
 
Is Commander really a term used by American military?

Seems kinda foreign, kinda mid-rank.

Can't wait until the QB runs a commando bootleg.

I can't imagine anyone thinks much of this name.

Without trying to be too political about it, the first thing I thought of is, well, Washington does enjoy commanding us.

Regardless - if you can't see how it will be morphed into Commies, you really should be fired.

Oh jeez! That’s what they’ve selected? The NFL has gotten so damn woke it’s sickening. I grew up with them being called the Refskins and Cleveland baseball team the Indians and never ever thought of it as a slap to American Indians. I just thought they were cool names and logos and that was the end of it. It’s a football nickname for darn sake and that’s all it is. Ya, I’m with you, I would have left it as WFT before Commanders.
Hell, isn’t this showing favoritism towards the US Navy? If I’m the Army Im offended.

If White Sox or Red Sox can be marketed, so can Football Team

However, that could get messy with trademarks, etc.

Me as well. We all felt the same way...well except for maybe Native Americans.

My stand on this was if Native Americans are OK with it, then I'm OK with it.

But then I've heard that many Native Americans were OK with it... so who the **** knows?
My bad. What a stupid question. Sitting atop their perch of superiority, the white guilt compassionate liberal knows!

It their mission to "correct the wrongs" ...they couldn't care less if Native Americans saw no problem with the names.
 
Quite an appropriate name

When your long time rival are a bunch of ******* of course you become the **** Commanders
