After watching the final game NHL, I must say Ovechkin was one happy guy.

Both he and Crosby are great players, but who's better between the two?

I'm not much of a hockey guy, but could you say Crosby is the better champion, but Oveckin is the better player?

until this year oveckin was mainly a me first player. He was a great goal scorer, lazy on D, and liked to cherry pick. This playoffs he turned into a 2 way player. He was blocking shots, diving to hit loose pucks out of the zone etc etc. Oveckin is a better scorer, but overall i still think Crosby is a better player. Crosby has a great scoring touch while also being a grinder. He is very hard to knock off the puck behind the net and has a great hockey IQ. He is also very responsible defensively. I guess the bottom line is i feel Crosby makes players around him better where Oveckin kinda does his own thing.

Crosby has been by far and away a better player than Alex. This was the first time he wasn't a puck hog and he acted like a captain in the playoffs. Plus Sid has 3 cups! I expect a few more.

Ovechkin isn't the best player on his own team. That would be Oshie.

Ovechkin is the best pure shooter in the league. Sid is the best all around player in the league.

Ovechkin needs talented players to feed him the puck.

Sid succeeds with 1st 2nd and 3rd year players on his line.

Can Ovechkin bat pucks out of mid air consistently and make Sheary look like an nhl winger?

Sid is the better of the two.
Sid makes his teammates better.

Ovie is a great shooter, but lacks some team chemistry.
Even this season he was far from the best on his team.

Oshie and birdman Kuznetzov were more dynamic.

This sums up my thoughts pretty damn well. Take a look at the link I added. It breaks down their first 1000 points and much of the impact. I think it supports Sid as a better more complete player. The info doesn't include beyond 2016 but is the best breakdown I have seen.

Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer of his generation. No doubt about that. I get the comparisons, because they came into the league together, but they are really different players. That said, if I am starting a team, I pick Sid. Sure, I am a little biased, but I just think Sid's game is more complete. Plays a 200 foot game, sees the ice probably better than anyone, distributes better than anyone. And as far as goals, Sid would score a lot more if he would actually shoot some more. If I need a goal scorer to put me over the edge, I take Ovie. If I need a captain to lead a team by example and do all the little things right PLUS make his teammates better, I take Sid.

To his credit, Ovechkin played easily the best hockey of his career in the playoffs this year. Played both ends, blocking shots, making hits and scoring goals. He may have another Cup or two if he decided to play that way at some point over the previous 13 years.

I completely agree with this.

Plus...

-Ovechkin plays no defense whatsoever.
-Ovechkin does not take faceoffs like Crosby.
-Ovechkin does not play on the PK.
-Ovechkin scores and runs around recklessly hitting opponents. He is a reckless hockey player. Crosby is not.
