Since being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has already left his mark on the league, both on and off the field.

From his breakout season in 2018, to his enormous personal brand and personality outside of football, Smith-Schuster has already made a lifetime’s worth of memories.

Earlier this week, Smith-Schuster took to the Steelers’ Twitter page to post maybe his most cherished memories so far — those being with Steelers’ future Hall of Fame quarterback and recent retiree, Ben Roethlisberger:

Over the past five years, Roethlisberger and Smith-Schuster have had an amazing connection. Excluding most of the 2019 season when Roethlisberger was out with a season-ending elbow injury (and a few other miscellaneous games due to injury), Roethlisberger targeted Smith-Schuster nearly 400 times in that five-year span. To put that in perspective, Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ wide receiver Chris Godwin has had 483 total targets, and Los Angeles Rams‘ wide receiver Cooper Kupp has had 599 total targets in that same timeframe. If not for Roethlisberger getting injured in 2019 and Smith-Schuster getting injured in 2021, I’m sure this pairs total targets would be much closer in the range of those latter players.

Despite their hurdles, this duo has done a lot of great things here in Pittsburgh. Since 2017, the Steelers have been AFC North Champions twice (2017, 2020), have made the playoffs three times (2017, 2020, 2021), and both Smith-Schuster and Roethlisberger were even selected to the Pro Bowl back in 2018 and 2017, respectively.

Now, another off-season has arrived, and Smith-Schuster’s time in Pittsburgh, just like Roethlisberger, looks like it may be coming to an end. Although there will be a new quarterback in Pittsburgh under center, that doesn’t mean Smith-Schuster can’t continue to make some more great memories here in the Steel City for himself. Will he stay or will he go though, that is the question…
