Per ABC post game coverage, just heard it's believed TJ has a grade III MCL sprain and wanted to come back into the game but the training staff wouldn't allow it.

"Adam Schefter on ESPN saying the Steelers believe T.J. Watt had a "best case scenario" with his knee injury. Appears to only be an MCL sprain."

Best case scenerio I would think would be a grade 1 sprain, so maybe not a grade 3?

I tore mine before and my knee swelled up the size of a grapefruit almost instantly, bleeding from the knee up inside the leg all the way up to the groin. I was pretty much good as new in 6 weeks, your lateral movement is pretty screwed up without sharp pain.

If it's less than that, then he should be somewhat OK in a week or two. Put a brace on it and hope for dry weather.

...if they sneak into the playoffs.

Listen ... ESPN had to botch the reporting... a grade 3 is a complete tear... so if there is optimism, its probably a lesser grade that is being misreported
Or that there is no other significant damage to other areas of the knee.

Watt is one of the few actually irreplaceable non-QBs in the NFL. However, this is why you sign Markus Golden and why you draft Nick Herbig. A team that depends on the pass rush to succeed has to have depth at the position and the front office knocked it out of the park this year.

Can someone elaborate on the recovery for that, please?

Watt will be out multiple weeks. You probably are best rooting for the Bills and Jags to win tomorrow.

TJ Watt: "I've never won a playoff game."

Wasting his career in Pittsburgh. I hope he can escape very soon. He deserves better and he wants better.

It must sting knowing your organization blew it by passing on the hometown boy……I’m not sure why you’re over here trying to talk **** anyway. Shouldn’t you be readying yourself to watch the packers blow another opportunity in a “win-and-in” game to an upstart team playing well at the end of the year?

Thankful for the training staff and overruling TJ

Like with Pickett, just because a guy " can" play doesnt mean he "should" play... you wNt guys begging to get back out there asap, but you also best look at the long term impact of a guy getting reinjured...

Team doctors are notorious for clearing guys too early... when an athlete can perform but the injury isnt 100% healed... its great when some make sensible decisions

I mean they let him walk to the locker room.. thats something they rarely do if its a total tear.

I think its going to be less than catastrophic but still bad enough to miss a game if we make the playoffs.

I also think early reporting on this stuff before an mri is nonsense

From the cleveland clinic:
"The time it takes to fully recover from an MCL tear depends on how severe the tear is. A grade 1 (mild) MCL tear usually heals within one to three weeks. A grade 2 (moderate) MCL tear generally takes four to six weeks to heal with treatment. A grade 3 (severe) MCL tear can take six weeks or more to heal with treatment."

And all " sprains" are basically tears... it just matters how much of the ligament tears... so them saying that the steelers think it isnt bad and simultaneously saying its a grade 3 makes no sense...

A grade 3 is basically a total tear.. he probably isnt walking on it if that happened

Not true about not being able to walk on it "if that happened." Players have walked off the field on ACL tears after they happen, only to find out later they tore their ACL. Him walking on it means nothing. The initial diagnosis by doctors treating him was a grade 3 MCL sprain. Not some rando Steelers fan on the internet spewing BS.

why do you post here? Originally I think it was the Steelers to beat the Seahawks. they did. You should be thankful.

The Steelers beating the Seahawks wasn't the end all be all for the Packers getting in the playoffs.

Bottom line...The Packers have 13 World Championships and the most wins all-time in the history of the NFL.

Please root against the Packers tomorrow while you are forced to root against the Jags and/or Bills. Have fun with your precious Steelers needing help tomorrow.

And I post on several message boards. I am a Packers fan but also a NFL fan. None of your business what I do, lol. Does it bother you I post here? Let me know, cuz I will make sure to post more if it rattles you.

So two things.. based off the decades of discussions we steelers fans have had here about knee injuries with some legitimate doctors imput..

First an ACL is a far more severe an injury for a football player.. so a slightly torn ACL would probably get a guy on IR despit him being able to walk a grade 3 is completely torn. Its often so painful and unstable its obvios immeadiately

A totally torn MCL would leave the knee unstable enough that team doctors would not let him walk on it without crutches..

Secondly, without the MRI they wont really know the severity.. so they wouldnt give it a grade yet... this is just more Rappaprt and Schefter quick post nonsense where they post stuff without confirmation.

The two things we have heard was the steelers are optimistic it isnt that bad and that its a grade 3. Thise are not two things that fit together... if its a grade 3 its an automatic like 8 weeks..
