After a career performance last night on Monday Night Football, TJ Watt is now the odds on favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY). Watt, who was tied with Dallas Cowboys rookie Micah Parsons at +200 going into the game, is now -400 to win the award.

Watt, who has only played in 14 of the Pittsburgh Steelers 16 games this year, is having a season for the ages and is just 1 sack off of the single season record of 22.5. Watt is averaging 1.53 sacks per game which would be an NFL record if he can record one more sack on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Watt should have a legitimate chance to break the record on Sunday as he had 3.5 sacks last time the Steelers beat the Ravens. The Ravens have also given up 54 sacks this season which leads the NFL, so expect Watt to continue his dominance against a backup quarterback and a beat up offensive line.

Watt has finished second in DPOY voting the past two seasons, but it seems like his hard work will finally pay off this year. Watt has become the premier pass rusher in the NFL and his impact on the Steelers season should not be underplayed. In games that Watt has finished the game, the Steelers are 8-2. In games that Watt has either not played or left the game early with injury, the Steelers have a record of 0-5-1. It’s hard to imagine the Steelers defense without Watt and he should finally get the respect he deserves by winning DPOY for the 2021-2022 season.

Do you think Watt deserves to win DPOY? Sound off in the comments below!

I firmly believe the Ravens will do whatever it takes to keep Watt from breaking the record. They'll completely sell out and triple team him all game if that's what it takes. They are clearly the most petty NFL franchise, so this is totally within their wheelhouse. What other team would run on a meaningless down to keep a 100 yard game streak going or also brag about having a super long pre-season winning streak?

Or, maybe they want to win the game and keeping their QB from getting sacked helps that.

Then I'd get creative moving him around. The Steelers need the pass rush to get through to make that defense hum. Got to pressure them.

Sell out?
That’s what teams do. Minimize the other team’s strength lol

Watt shouldn't just win, he should be the unanimous winner. I sure hope he at least ties the record against the Ratbirds but all of their QB's are very mobile and tough to sack.

Tomlin promoted little chest to keep an active record going on the 3 catch 50yard thingy. If Coach Tomlin can't figure a way to call the defense to put TJ in access of a couple sacks, then he is double standarding offense from defense.

Make no mistake with or with out the season sack record TJ WATT has the credentials for this year's DPOY hands down. If he gets screwed out of it again then there is something very wrong-eR with the nfl system.

Watt is having an elite year. Like a best ever season for QB Sacks. I did some numbers on the vidcast yesterday and sack per games played ratio is incredible if you hit a 1, you are an all pro. This means you are averaging a sack per game. Every 1/10th above a 1 makes for all time great seasons. So here's a look on some of these all time great sack seasons.

Tops is Reggie White. Dude could never seem to put in a full season, but man was he effective when he played

1.75 21 sacks in 12 games and did it twice! R.White
1.57 22 sacks in 14 games and did it twice! D.Jones
1.43 23 sacks in 16 games A.Baker (unofficial sack leader since he did it in 78' and NFL tracked sacks in 82'
1.4 22.5sacks in 16 games Strahan's Record setting year
1.37 22 in 16 games J.Houston, Gastineau, J.Allen
1.33 20 in 15 games by D.Thomas

Currently TJ has 1.53 with 21.5 in 14 games played
If he doesn't get another sack, he's tied with Al Baker at 1.43 2 sacks would put him at 1.56. 3 sacks he'd be at 1.63 and 4 sacks would be 1.7. He'd need 5 sacks to break Reggie's rate for a season.

Still incredible that Watt is averaging a sack and a half this season. We locked him in at the right time! DPOY for sure, and I won't be surprised if he gets some MVP votes this year, just to stick it to Ben for never getting a single vote in 18 years.

I'll go so far to say that if he breaks the sack record, he should be the league MVP as well.

I've been clamoring for that for awhile. These ******* QBs sissy ***** seems automatic for them to get MVP.

Had the STEELERS had a better win loss, like say 12-5 or above then I think maybe his bell would be heard.

Don't rule out a 5-sack game from TJ.

woh very close and against the browns too surely there was some extra motivation.

JJ Watt or TJ Watt ???

When all is said and done little brother just may have the best overall career of the Watt brothers…

TJ is most certainly deserving of the League MVP if the votes fall in his favor, but I expect Aaron Rogers to get it. Unless more MVP voters feel the same as the Chicago guy.

Currently they are 31 sacks apart though JJ has played in 6 more seasons.

When TJ Joined the league he was 76 sacks behind his brother. He has outsacked his brother 71 to 26 since joining the league.

2018 was the only time JJ had more sacks than TJ 16 to 13

TJ still has one more game to play to add to his sack totals.
