He at one time was a very good ST coach..those days have long passed it is time to move on..allow a long KO return to end 1st half that almost cost us pts..then allow an even longer one to open the 2nd half...WTF
We have a conundrum: both Boswell and Wright (as of late) have been pretty accurate on FGs and PATs, yet the kickoffs are shorter than most other teams', at least from what I've seen. Even with the KO's moved up to the 35 yard line from the 30 about 11 years ago, our kicks rarely sail past the back endline, resulting in more returns. For sure I'd rather have a kicker with an accurate leg vs. a strong one (both would be nice), but hopefully these KO returns don't become a game-deciding factor. What he was at the 40 twice and past thirty another time then the big return.
Bos regularly kicks it out of the endzone, unless Danny calls for a short kick, apparently thinking that we will all of a sudden figure out how to cover a kick. Hardly ever do we stop someone short of the 25 yard line.We have a conundrum: both Boswell and Wright (as of late) have been pretty accurate on FGs and PATs, yet the kickoffs are shorter than most other teams', at least from what I've seen. Can't blame the D for those 7 points. Agree it would have been an easy win as they had trouble getting 1st downs.that was a pitiful display of kickoff coverage last night.
You can just feel that big return coming...and it almost costs us a victory.
Without that return to start the 2nd half, I believe we spank that team ...
Coaching for Tomlin is like a lifetime appointment unless someone over his head says otherwise. We have seen that time and time again.I’m convinced that Bubbles has pictures. This guy is a joke.
Cope---One man missing on the kickoff coverage team should not make that big of a difference...one would think? It's a big difference in coverage when our top cover guy Boykin is missing the game with an injury.
Even with Boykin our Kick coverage is inconsistent at best. It has been that way for years. Combine that with our abysmal blocking on Kick and punt returns and you have to ask yourself how do certain coaches keep their jobs. It's a big difference in coverage when our top cover guy Boykin is missing the game with an injury.
I tcould swear I have seen this thread every yer for at least 3 years, when will bubbles be accountable?
All too often on the short kick calls someone breaks a long run as well. Too many penalties over the years on returns as well. It got a year or two ago I thought the Steelers should fair catch or kneel every punt and kick because of the penalties. Overall, I'd guess the special teams is pretty average and I don't know if I'd be calling for Smith's job. When it does come time to move on, I hope they get a fresh face.Bos regularly kicks it out of the endzone, unless Danny calls for a short kick, apparently thinking that we will all of a sudden figure out how to cover a kick. I could take the job
Looks like he has worn many hats. He might be more than STs capable.should be our next special teams coach
